Thats cool part of it was still there. In the third picture I can see some print still. Try looking at it in different lighting to make out any of the print. Try a black light or try to get a professional look at it to see if they can enhance the print.
Good luck.
It's just a shame that they couldn't have put them in a place that was BOUND to get all filled with dirt, moisture, and spilled gas....like somewhere in the interior compartment.
When I was changing the rear bumper cover on my old 78, I found the tank sticker that was actually in legible condition! I was shocked! I also found that the UAW workers had taken a copy of the local funny pages on the day the car was built, and glued them under the rear compartment doors. It was pretty cool because it showed the date at the top of the newspaper and everything....at least I thought it was cool!! Sort of a time capsule on wheels!!

Well to their credit, these build papers were just for their internal reference. They were never intended to be viewed or retrieved by the customer. Some of us get lucky, and some don't!
I tried the blacklight and no dice Oh well, I'm going to frame the damn thing anyway.
Congrats on finding what you did! Like others said at least part of it was there.
Don't rule out not finding a decent copy of that elusive build sheet just because the one on the tank was in poor shape.
The previous owner of my 76 was monkeying around with the radio/installing a remote cd changer and a folded piece of paper fell out from under the driver's side dash onto the floor. Turns out it was another copy of my build sheet. I eneded up with a NICE copy even before I knew the one on the tank still existed.
Keep an eye out for one if you ever go into the dash.....
'76, not sure what year they started putting them in, but it was around then.
I found my '77 L-82's build sheet on top of this same gas tank shield; luckily it was still complete & readable after 30+ years. We had dropped the gas tank in my car to replace the rubber lines, & see if the build sheet was there.....the gas tank was in remarkable condition (and yes, it was the original), but no build sheet.....then we decided to lower this metal shield that was between the tank & the body that's bolted to the frame....yep, there it was, glued to the top! I suspect that many late 70's C3 owners look for their build sheets to be on top of their gas tanks & are disappointed to not find them there; and the entire time, their build sheet is glued to the top of this shield! I believe that these shields were used from '75 thru '77.
Don't give up on that sheet just yet. Forensically the ink is still there, just faded due to moisture and evaporation. Chemically there may still be traces of the carbon used when the sheet was printed. A lab with a multi-frequency lighting source might be able to dial in to a wavelength that would make that type visible. I wanted to try that on my build sheet but when I opened my car up, the build sheet was not there. So, just a thought, but treat it carefully, it has the data you want, just have to extract it.
My two cents.
David
Here is a photo of my build sheet. The car spent its entire life in the San Francisco Bay area. Now it’s in KY being restored. I dropped the tank and the sheet was very brittle and I had to use a soft brush to remove the dirt. Also, the sheet was in several pieces only held together by the glue used to secure it to the tank. I used scotch tape on the back side to piece together.

Hey Terry- Just curious what your VIN is... I have a '70 LT1/NA9 car as well... Looks like a April or May car?
I just found my build sheet the other day. It's on top of the gas tank on the right side. It looks to be in very good condition and complete. It also appears to be folded over. I can see part of it from under the car and using a bore scope, through the gas tank lid. This car has always been in Southern Calif. and garaged most of it's life. Along with the fact that it's folded over makes me think that it's still very readable. However, it will have to stay there unless there is reason to drop the tank.

What year, and when you write "right side" do you mean driver's side or pass side. These usually appear on the driver's side of the tank.
The borescope is a great idea. I'm going to get a lighted one that hooks up to the USB port on the laptop showing the image on the screen and examine the top of the tank as well as thru the rear dash area. My car ('69 L71) is very original, shows about 65K miles on the clock, has no rust, has some unusual options (speed minder and alarm system on a 427/435, wierd). I gotta believe the build sheet is here somewhere because of its originality and condition.
I always thought it would be on the drivers side, if it was there. Don't know why, just always thought that's where it would be. But there's no mistaking, it's on the passenger side.
Good luck with finding yours.
