I have a 71 Coupe and the previous owner placed some box type speakers in the rear that just simply sit on the carpet. They are not mounted and interfear with T Top storage and are always needing to be stood back up after any hard braking..
Can anyone suggest a speaker box that does not go across the entire back of the car, but mounts up in the far corners just below the rear window storage door hinges?
This will get tehe speakers up off the floor of the t top storrage area and be a little higher and not blocked by the T Tops when they are stacked in the back.
You might take your car to a local speaker shop and see what they have. I know in my neck of the woods there are shops that can custom build you a box for about $200-$250....just depends on what you want I suppose. I have an 80, so I'm not limited on space like you are, but that's just a thought anyways. Good luck!
Just put a couple of good-quality speakers behind the kickpanels by your feet. That is where the '68-69 speakers resided. You can wire them up with the dash speakers to give you much better, fuller, and more balanced sound. It wouldn't hurt to replace the dash speakers, also. But if they sound OK and don't buzz or hiss, you can just wire them in series (on each side). Buy 4 ohm speakers for any new or replacement speakers if you will be using dash and kickpanel speakers on each side. New dash/kickp speakers on each side would have 8 ohm impedence (4ohm+ 4ohm); old dash speakers and new kicks would be 14 ohm total (10 ohm + 4 ohm). The latter set-up will reduce the volume of the radio a bit, and the bulk of the sound will go to the speakers in the kickpanels; but the highs coming from the dash will reflect off the glass and sound OK. The better set-up is new speakers all around (4 ohm); series-wired, they will be a good match (8 ohms compared to 10 ohm Delco head), it will increase the volume a bit...without risk of burning out the amp...and the balance will be very good between the dash and kick speakers. All of that assumes that you have the original Delco head in the car.
this works fine for me and can't notice any difference in sound. Just used a piece of cardboard to get the shape right and cut it out. It stands by being wedged between the two sides of the fiberglass and is touching the bottom as well. No rattles or anything. Very hard to see also if thats what you want.

What are the dimensions of the board you have the speaker in?
To be honest I have no idea and my car is at home while im at college so there is no way I could find out for you. I would just cut out cardboard so that it can sit at an angle. It come out to be shaped like a meat clever.
