I'm getting a Chevy Z 350 small block and putting Edelbrock's power package on top and dropping into my 1978 Corvette in place of the L82 it came with.
I was told by the techs I'd need to get a new flexplate, but I had to know the number of teeth in the flexplate to match the gearing.
Anybody know what the correct answer is for a 78 Vette?
Anybody done this and have some sagely advice for a first-timer?
I have replaced these, and it's a good idea to do so if the current one is showing excessive wear or missing teeth. There is a procedure to check if the wear is within the limits, but I can't remember it off the top of my head (something about a wire feeler gage). I had to count the teeth on my original to be sure I was ordering the right one. Summit racing lists a 168 tooth flex plate for your 1978 corvette, and that is what I installed in my project (the TCI unit with ARP hardware).
