I have a 77 corvette serial number 1z37l7s429069 and was wondering if it was early or late. Want to change all the weatherstripping in it but need to know this first.
Also does anybody know where the parts list sticker is on this year of vette.
count the screws in the door stripping... i think the late have 8 screws...early has 7..maybe... but i remember it was a screw count that i did to figure it out
Production sequence starts at the 8th number in the VIN. 1977 started at 400001 and went through 446558. According to your VIN number I would say your car was later in production. onaqwst is correct about counting the screws to figure it out!
Welcome to the forum Another quick way to tell early or late is the early 77's have the alarm lock in the drivers side fender and late has the alarm lock incorporated into the drivers side door lock

I went through this a while back, I have an early model 77
When I first bought my '74 the guy I got it from said it never worked so I really never tried it as it sat in the garage while I was restoring it. One morning, about 3:00am, I decided to see what "if". I put the key in the switch, turned it, and holy hell that thing went off and scared the heck out of me. I had the car door open so that switched activated the alarm. Let's just say my wife and kids weren't real happy as there bedrooms were right above the garage.
I have the same 1977 L82 8 digit of the vin and back is 411271 need to know if it is early or late as I am needing to order new A/C and heater since the shop that was doing my restoration when my mom owned it decided to rob it out of the car.
I am away from the car for a week or two going back to TX to pick it up just want to get a head start on it are there any other ways to tell that my mother could do for me without knowing much about them I asked her about the alarm she said there is no alarm on it and that it is manual door locks. So I dont expect much from her on this.

There were a lot of running changes in 77, not just one date where everything is changed over.
Best is to count the screw holes for the weatherstripping and also check other questionable parts at the time of order.
As an example my "early" 77 had the orange painted engine, alarm in fender with no crossed flag emblems, brushed chrome horn button etc.
Built on 10/19/76 serial 408xxx
"Early" and "Late" usually refer to specific running changes made on the assembly line. You can check page revison dates in the assembly instruction manual and sometimes come up with an approximate date for a running change. Other sources (NCRS) may also have known dates or serial number ranges for other changes.
Alarm switch moved beginning with #27373. Cars with consecutive unit numbers prior to #27373 would be "early" for this specific change.
Between 8/23/76 and 9/7/76, Flint engine changed from Chevrolet Orange to GM Corporate Blue for engine color. Technically, this was not a Corvette running change -- the folks at St. Louis simply used the engines as provided from Flint.

I did not know any 77 models had orange engines. I thought they switched to blue in the 76 year model.
ok its got 7 in the stripping, so its an early, engine had been repainted or swapped it is black, I am trying to locate complete A/C air box, heater box, what was the difference between this in the early model as oppose to that in the later 77

Underhood AC stuff is probably the same as late 76 and 78-82. 77s used the R4 compressor.
The assembly instruction manual (AIM) will help you get her back together.

Mine is a verified late model through Corvette America when I was purchasing my weather stripping also. Interesting thing is mine has the alarm on the fender. My late model weather stripping fit perfect. Can anyone explane that.
