My 69 350 std/non AC originally came with a 37 amp alternator....I recently traded it to a forum member and now I have to put another back in its' place.
I have another 37A and a 61A sitting here, and am more inclined to put the 61 amp in the car.
Is there any drawback to putting a significantly higher output alternator back in? I can't really see why not, but would like some feedback on this.
It would sure be nice to be able to drive one of these old cars at night with the wipers and blower on and not have that nervous feeling I get at traffic lights when everything gets a bit slower and dimmer
As long as the wiring is in good shape no problem. You can also upgrade your existing alternator with a kit that ups the amps. I upgraded my 43 amper to 80 amps for about 45 bucks. Works great. I did it because of the electric fans draw quite a bit of power.
my original 69 L-46 came with a 61 amp alternator for some reason. it has no a/c and no trans ign. it is dated right for my car and i (and most ncrs guys) are convinced it is original to the car (#1100882).......so short answer YES it will work.

John,
Mine is an L-46 too, no a/c and points ignition like yours. The alternator I took off was the original (though the engine isn't).
It was a 1100900 37 amp dated 9H26 for what its' worth. Car is a late 69 (29418) built mid September 1969.
