I had to sell my '69 convertible a while back, but I am back in the ranks of the Corvette owners.
I just bought a 1972 coupe that is in pretty good condition. It is really nice to be back with the forum, and I look forward to helping out and getting some advice around here.
My red '72 is a 4-speed with a replacement 350. I have 1,000 projects planned for it, but I think I may start by adding shoulder belts (if I can figure out how to make some holes in the seats).
I'm also trying to get rid of a 1966 Mustang GT that is taking up valuable Corvette space in my garage if you know anyone interested.

Welcome back. You should have known better.
Your 72 should have shoulder belts installed already. I don't know if shoulder belts were still optional in 72 but mine has them. There is a bolt-in piece that fits on the seatback for the shoulder belt. Maybe someone replaced the seats in your car with earlier models.
Hi M53,
I believe the shoulder belt was still an option for convertibles in 1972.
I believe you can modify the trim plate on the front of the seat and buy the trim bezel for the rear of the seat. Getting the hole cut might be difficult because access to the seat 'innards' is so limited because the seat cover is very tight near the top. Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
I got to looking more closely at it last night, and it turns out that the plastic covers for the shoulder retractors are there, but there is no sign of the shoulder belts. There is no pass-through space in the seats and the lap belts do not have the clip for the shoulder belt. Looks like 72LS1 is correct that someone swapped the seats at some point and did not keep the shoulder belts. Looks like it is time to start doing some research on how to get the holes in the seat backs.
