I just purchased a rear valence it is an original gm part#3948133 spec.40-2351-gb--69 this valence is 3/8 to short.is this because Im changing a under car exhaust to a side exhaust? what is the measurment between the quarters is it the same? mine measures 42 3/4

If you are changing to side exhaust, is the new valance a "filler" type that plugs the existing outside holes from the original exhaust?

BTW, I just had my '69 painted, and I had 2 valances that didnt fit properly.

no this is an original side exhaust panel with the straight ends.if I move it to the left 3/8 the 2 bolt holes line up and vice versa .however if i put it in the center none of the holes line up nor do the edges around the license plate hole or the ends.thank you

I am doing the same thing (under to side exhaust) but I am using the filler panel that vettebuyer mentioned. I just went out and measured mine and found that it is 43 1/8 inches (providing we are referencing the same measurement points). Looks like there may be some vehicle to vehicle tolerances which I've often heard before.

I just measured fender to fender as described above on my factory side pipe car. I get the same 43 1/8 like above. sounds like the panel you have may be a bit short.

thank you thats a shame this panel is in new cond and you can see where it was bolted up once I do not want to cut or modify a nice factory part that someone else could use but I dont want to stick anyone else with a bad part.

My old valance measures about 42 and 7/8ths. My new one is exactly 42 and 3/4's like yours. However all of my mounting points line up ok but looks like I'll have to glass over the areas around the exhaust outlets and edge where we measured from. I was prepared for this though as I've always been told of stories when fitting panels there would usually be some degree of modifications needed as all of these style Vettes have slightly different fit and form. As I mentioned in my PM to you, there is also a small degree of flex when I sat under the car and pulled in on the quarters. That may help with some of the difference.

Hi 69R,
These are a couple of pictures of the .......133 valance on my 71. It measures 42 7/8".
I BELIEVE that for the 69 m.y. the whole rear quarter was different on side exhaust cars than the one on under car exhaust cars (the factory didn't do a fiberglass modification). Could this be the cause of your problem?
Since youre going to need to do some fiberglass work on the quarters, for the bezel cut out, can you make the valance fit at that time?
Regards,
Alan
