Default Need Help, In Making and Educated Decision

Let me start of by saying I have loved this forum for many years. Everyone here is so much different than other forums I belong to and for the most part you all share the same passion on vettes.

So here we go. I currently own a 77. Open up a thread a while back about how to store it outside as I was not going to use it in a while. As I am currently disabled and on the lung transplant list.

I closed up my custom bike shop and decided to sell or trade my prize possession. She is currently on eBay item number 350279847523. You can read my entire boring story if you like but in a nutshell I have to sell her in case something does happen to me it would be easier for my wife to sell a car than to sell this bike.

I got a guy in NY who has a beautiful 78 who wants to trade but is having problems with the transporting the car and picking up the bike.

Then yesterday I get a guy who is local and offers me a pick of three cars. This is what he writes

"Man that a cool bike.
I have several old hotrods, classic cars, Vettes.
would you be interested in a 1957 Chevrolet panel van short wheel base, 502 motor with a turbo 350 tranny. it's running driving hotrod turnkey. also have two c-3 vettes a 1970 conv blue white top black int 4 speed and a 1971 convertible also dark red white top black int, auto was a/c car missing compressor.
give me a call for details."

Now without being bias should I go for the 57 or one of the vettes? I know there are many variables that are not mentioned so think of them as worst case scenarios. Although the vettes have good birdcages and solid bodies I forgot to ask him if they were number matching cars or not so lets say they are not number marching.

I just want the best buck for the bang and I am thinking of the 57 but love any of those two Vettes. The trade is to happen tomorrow so I wanted to see what most people would pick.

Here are pictures of the 57 and the 70. The 71 he did not have any pictures on him but you can see it through the back of one of the 57 pictures.

Here is the bike I am trading him

That panel truck, hot rod would only appeal to a limited number of people and it would be real hard to establish a market price. If the two vettes are in similar condition and optioned similar, I would go with the 70.

87,
The 57 for resale the window is small, 71 looks nice, but the 70 with what it has is what I
would go for if was me. Good luck on your Med. problem. glassman74

My vote would be either of the vettes, easier resale if needed. My thoughts are with you . Get well soon.

If the end plan is to sell, easily one of the 2 Vettes. The '57 will be hard to move. Take the Corvette that is the most correct.

First off best wishes on getting your health back. The 57 has a narrow band of interest, you'd have to work much harder to find a buyer. Either one of the Vettes has a much broader band of interest, so now you have a choice to make!

I would opt for the '70 Vette...unless you didn't want to "clutch it" anymore--then go with the '71 Vette. If you are still interested in doing the power "thing" and want something unusual to drive, the '57 would be the way to go.

My87,

Unless the 71 (can't see well in the pic) is an LS6 or something, take the 70 Vert w 4 speed, as it's a more desirable car.

My prayers are with you for a return to good health. May God bless you and your family.

I'd go for the 70 hands down, based on the pics. The 71 if you want an auto. Forget the truck, too limited a market for resale.
Best of luck to you!

I wish you well with your very serious health issues. But I note some optimism displayed for the future. A good attitude.

I am not into custom bikes (their value) but that 1970 is a very nice looking car. I would go for it.

Agree with most everyone, 70 first, 71 next, and 57 Panel truck as a last result. As everyone said, the Panel truck would be harder to move and only appeal to a select group.

Good luck and our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery!

I guess the vettes win by a vote of 99 to 1

I was really hoping everyone would say the 57 with the huge engine but this is the reason I posted this thread. I needed advice from experts since I do not know much about the 57 Panels. I own a 51 Plymouth flat six which I love but the van was out of my league and really did not know. Also good points on the resale part did not think about that.

I will let you all know what happens in the next few days. Thanks for everyone wishing me to get well and hopefully a new set of lungs will help me kick it for a few more years.

First and formost,I'm hoping for your health to improve. That blue ragtop is an easy choice. However,if there is any chance of you reopening the bike shop, that panel truck would come in very handy.BTW,any more pics of that crazy-*** bike.Looks really cool, nice work.
