I'm in the process of replacing my heater core and found this thing in the dash,
it's located directly behind the pass dash, above the heater assembly.
It has a wire connector on the left but nothing was connected to it.
(The windshield is at the top left of the photo)
This is on a '75 corvette

Radio convector (amplifier). Two-transistor for optional AM-FM stereo radio. If you have a modern head unit and speakers it is null and void.

BTW post pics of your heater core replacement. People are always interested in that difficult task.

It's a Heat Sink - possibly for the stereo or other electronic component which generated a lot of heat during operation. Is the original radio in the car, or do you have an after-market?

Correct.

Hang on to it!! They are highly prized and difficult to replace. Original stereos will not work without them.

It's the radio amplifier, or convector assembly as it's called in the AIM.

If it is original to the car, it had a stereo radio from the factory. Even if you don't plan on using it, leave it with the car. A future owner would only need to buy an original radio "head" to make it all operational. As mentioned, those stereo convectors are rather difficult to come by.
