Saw this pictures from a different website, thought you guys would like to see them
No back story on the photos other than the guy in Canada spent 2 years on restoring the car and never got to drive the car before the accident. If you look, the left arm failed because it is on the ground with the car so that means the car was up in the air and then fell down.
I think this qualifies as one of those times in ones life, where the mishap is so overwhelming and disatrous....that you calmly sit down and start to drink heavily. Poor guy!
I've worked in dealerships for over 35 years (yeah I'm old) and I don't care what brand or type of lift it is if it's a 2 post lift that CAN happen. We take a lot for granted and are trusting soles when we put 2 tons in the air and work underneath it. Cable, chain, hydraulic, or operator error or any combination is a possibility. A small possibilty but the chance is there and it's real. Yes that is tuff to look at and I hope no one was hurt.
A reminder you can never be too carefull.
O M G /I would have a cow you might as well take me out back and kill !!! My lift has a safty thing where if 1 cable breaks a pin goes into the post . 4 post units are movable and run 110.I feel so bad for that man .
Most likely due to faulty assembly (rather than broken part). Time to call the lawyer and sue the installer. Oops! The owner was the installer. You can't be too careful when putting one of those together. Your life is on the line (hardware can be replaced). Check all parts for any sign of damage/defect. Know how the device works and how the safety systems work. Put it together as if you were doing it for your son...and HE was going to be the one working under it all day long.

I have seen the pics of 4 post lifts failing on here before. This is the first time I have seen a 2 post failing. It does say Craftsman on the leg but I guess that is just a sticker. I have always wanted a 2 post just for the ease of access to the car. Pics like this make a person want to rethink that idea.
Any idea how this turned out for the guy? Did his insurance cover this accident? I would be sick for sure.
Seems odd that only the passenger side valve cover came off.
Just curious, but in a situation like this is there any way to get compensation? Ie. via the lift company (if the lift failed) or possibly through auto insurance? That would be a hard pill to swallow if you have to pay for all the damages out of pocket.
Hopefully he wasn't happy with the paint and body work on that side and was planning to redo it...Now would be a good time to take care of some of those under car detailing tasks! At least he won't be wondering what he was gonna do with all that spare time he was about to have this winter.
That just plain sucks, good to see that nobody was hurt or worse, the car can be fixed, death or loss of limbs can't.
Oh man, it was a BB SS Camaro, I would be sick. At least he was not under the car when it came down. How would ever get it right side up without causing more damage. Or is it totalled already?
I had a red 68 just like that and some bastards stole it , turned it on its side in a vacant lot and rolled the engine out. Must be why I had dej'a-vu when I saw the pic. I wonder if I still have the picture ?
I seem to recall a forum member having a lift failure way back when. A 69 might have been involved. There was plenty of thread space and pics devoted to his mishap. Might have to search the archives.
see... my failing memory didn't fail me this time. I know there was plenty more discussion than this, but it was a long time ago.

In 87 I watched a cadilac start in gear rolling forward, the open hood caught the grill of a raised 80 chevette that was staight across from it and shoved that chevette right off the rack and into the parking lot. In 97 I watched the two front legs on a single post slip out and a 97 cavalier with 18k on it took a nose dive right into the concrete.. totaled them both but nobody was hurt..
