Vented fuel/gas caps

All the pollution control stuff was removed from my '72 several years ago by the PO. The carbon cannister is still there but the guts (all the charcoal and filter material was removed) and the vacuum hoses to the engine were cut. The vent line to the gas tank is still connected, but serves no purpose - no filtering function. I'm removing the cannister and wish to purchase a vented gas cap. Which vented cap will fit my car? I have a locking cap now but it is not vented. Someone mentioned that you can just remove the gas cap gasket and and it becomes vented. Would that suffice for proper venting?

Drill a small hole in your present gas cap or buy one for a '63-70 (vented).

You can buy the vented cap from most all the Vette Parts Suppliers. It's 27 bucks at ZIP.
