I recently bought an Edelbrock 600 off of Ebay it was advertised as being used very little. When it was sent to me it looked like it had never been used. So i took of the stock Qjet and put this one on and now i am having trouble with the car loading up. I can look into the carb while the car is running and i can see the carb is dripping excess fuel into the manifold it is even dripping from the secondaries. I was told that the stock high volume pump is to much pressure for the carburetor and then another person is telling me that those pumps would never put out enough pressure to do that. Any ideas? Thanks.
Your '78 had a Q-jet originally and the pump pressure was OK for it....shouldn't be a problem with the Edelbrock AFB carb. Sounds like the Edelbrock carb needs to be rebuilt..probably a float/needle valve problem. If you have to rebuild one of those carbs, rebuild the Q-jet. It is a much better carb and has lots more capacity than the old AFB design. Send the junk AFB back if you can. That's my .02.

The AFBs were good in their day, but that was a loooooooooong time ago.
I agree but the problem with the Qjet is they are so tempermental and then to find somebody you can trust to rebuild the carburetor the right way and not charge an arm and a leg.

Quadrajets are actually quite the opposite of temperamental. I would suggest you go to Cliff's Q-jets, give them the specifics for your set up, buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself. Lose the Edelbrock carb. Even set up perfectly, it's a bad carburetor.
Besides rod and jet sizing, there are only a couple of significant adjustments that require attention: height of the power piston and spring setting on the secondary airvalve. The rest of the rebuild is cleaning the housings and orifices, assembling it correctly and setting idle mixture, idle speed, and choke position. That is no more complex than any other brand of carb. The "complexity" of the Quadra-Jet is due to a lack of knowledge and a stigma people have against them...nothing else.
