My 73 only has a single horn, not a low and high. There is also no extra lead for the second horn that I could find. When did GM start using 2 horns? Or was it just an option to add the second horn?
2nd horn was an option, you should be able pick up the horn and the horn extention harness from wilcox, don't know if they carry the bracket. The horn behind the rear wheel is part of the security system GM installed.
My 72 came with a single horn (and of course the alarm horn behind the left rear wheel well)..I switched to 2 horns.
Not sure but I think some earlier models had 2 horns up front...

Other than the second horn, what did you have to get? Is their a special harness that you need to get? How do you know what "key" or "tone" horn you have/need to get?

The part number on your existing horn will identify the tone. With only two tones available...this should be very easy to I.D. Depending on whom you order the additional horn from, they should be able to help with what horn you need, and the harness as well.
Hi VR,
I believe 70 was the last year for 2 horns. #245 low note, pass side; #246 high note, driver's side.
71s and 72s had 1 horn, #245 in 71 and #032 in 72. The horns were date coded too.
These numbers may help you determine what you have in your 73.
Regards,
Alan
The 73's came with one horn and the 74's came with two horns. You can get the wiring harness to adapt a second horn from most parts vendors. I believe the 74 horns are P/N 049 and 038.

The original horns, I'm told, are very expensive and hard to find. My '72 did not have the original horn, so I just headed down to NAPA and bought 2 new aftermarket horns. They come with mounting brackets, and I just made my own simple wiring connection to the original horn wire.
"They" say..the horns need to be 2 notes separated for good tone (whatever the heck that means)!!
