My '72 has a compressor from a Buick based on the label information on it.
I bought one of those clutch shields to keep oil from being slung on the underside of the hood. Problem is anytime I turn the heat or A/C on the compressor clutch hits the shield and makes a ton of noise. You can see on the underside of the shield where it's been scraping.
If I bend it so that it doesn't make contact when the compressor is in use the outter end of the shield hits the front and rear corners of the hood where the clutch/pulley relief is.
What's the deal? I see lots of people using these things. Is my compressor larger than the original one that is supposed to be in there?
I am not aware of any physical differences in the size of the case. however there are sone differences in the size of the clutch over the years and brands.
