Default missing fiber 0ptic

Hello all,

I have 1971 stingray. Unforunately, the fiber optic cable seems to be missing on the passanger side. If possible, where can i find fiber optic cable. Are there any substitutes from another car that I may possibly use?

thanks

joe

You can get it from most of the vette vendors, here is what Zip has - http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductS...%20fiberoptic&

Is part of the cable missing or is it just not working on the right side?

Passenger's side what? Headlight? Parking light? Taillight? If you R&R the wiring harness at each light, you are likely to find at least part of the missing FO cable.

Have you cleaned the FO lenses at the lamps and the console? They get dirty over time.

The forward lamp harness is wrapped and contains both electrical wires and fiber optic cables. If the 3 passenger side FO cables (hi beam, low beam and turn signal/parking lamp) are not there, they must be cut/broken and the ends located back in the wrapped harness somewhere. You do realize the headlamp FO cables are in the center of the electrical connectors?

FO cables can be successfully spliced together...cut the ends square with a razor blade and connect with a short piece of very small vacuum hose, then cement the ends of the hose to the cables to prevent pullout. I am sure somebody like Lectric Ltd, Paragon or Ecklers sells the cables with connectors for the lamp ends. Make sure to install the little black rubber collars when attaching the combination plug to the headlights.

Your other choice is to buy the entire forward lamp harness and it is a PITA to install...especially the FO cables thru the firewall, up to the top of the dash and down into the console indicator panel. I had to drop the steering column, instrument panel, gauge panel, remove the radio and disconnect the center console. Direct from Lectric Ltd, $199.

The forward lamp harness plug connects at the firewall, below the steering column, along with the engine wiring harness plug. There should be a fiber optic pigtail that breaks out before that plug and goes thru a grommet in the lower firewall, closer to the fender. That pigtail should contain all 6 fiber optic cables. If they ain't there, they probably ain't anywhere. If they are, then go forward 'til you find the missing ends. BTW, if you decide to put this harness back together, don't wrap it back up with sticky electrical tape. Doc Rebuild sells the non-sticky wrap that these factory harnesses came with.

looked in the car near steering post .i see a big harness that breaks off and goes to a plug that goes thru the firewall.i see where they come thru . under the master brake cyl. about 7 inches from steering post going to fender there looks like a lot of wires. and then they get wraped up and they are hard to follow at that point. But i have drivers side that the FO works on the consold .it lights up. so i am probley looking at the correct wires.will try tomorow.

I'm just saying that if you are missing the 3 passenger side fiber optic cables, they are probably only missing in the engine compartment somewhere...no need to be looking inside the car. That harness only runs forward on the drivers side, breaks out to the drivers headlamps and turn signal, then continues on to the passenger headlamps and turn signal. Don't be messing around with the electrical plug at the firewall, unless you want more problems.

The remnants of the missing right side FO will almost certainly be in the wire bundle for the right side lights. The FO stuff is black sheathed standed FO cable. All the electrical stuff is colored wire. You should be able to determine FO from wiring.

Post some pics.

to all that helped me with the F.O. i thank you. I finely found where it was cut.It was cut about 6 inches from the drivers side headlight . I ordered 13 ft. from a company called street works. I also bought harness tape and light seals. So im in good shape. Thanks again for the good help
