of all the V8's to swap in to a C3, a mopar small block would probably be the option that makes the least amount of sense. Parts are more expensive, it's neither exotic nor inherently more powerful than an SBC and you'd have to fabricate all kinds of crap to get it to work.

If you wanted an oddball engine swap, I like the turbo V6 idea, but definitely not in something as valuable as a '69.

A Viper V10 however....

The SBC has been the No.1 choice for engine swaps for many years. Swapped into many Ford hot rods & about everything else ...

The sbc is a great engine, why would your friend want to down grade. It makes absolutely no sense.

I was pumping gas in 1974 when a straight axle Corvette rolls in WITH A 440 Six Pack!!! Had to cut the crap out of the firewall as I recall.

"MOPAR" backwards is "RAPOM", the noise it will make when it disintegrates!

I guess someone else has tried to wind a small block Mopar above 6700RPM like I did back when I was young and foolish. Rod bearings won't live long in a 340 Mopar above 6700RPM. I can personally attest to this as I cleaned out the Western States NAPA parts distribution network of Cherokee brand crankshaft kits in the mid 1970's when I raced my 340 Duster on the street and at Fremont Drag Strip. I learned a lot about valvetrain failures, spun rod bearings and differential set-up.

Then I took a late night ride with my buddy in his 1970 LT-1 Z28 Camaro and got CHEVRELIGION! (my Duster was down yet again with another catastrophic engine failure.)

As far as 440 Six Packs are concerned, I owned one of those too, would rather have it than a 340 Mopar, IN A MOPAR. I knew a guy with a 440 swapped into a 67 Camaro, he smoked a lot of DOPE! to consider doing that (true story!)

I sold that 340 Duster, bought a 69 RS Z/28 and have never looked back since! CHEBIE 4 ME!

The only reason your buddy has a spare 340 laying around is because his mopar body rusted out on him. If you want a depedable mopar motor, I suggest the slant six. It lets you know when its time for an oil change when the oil filter rusts through and leaves a puddle on the ground. Its not much for power but it doesnt come apart like his 340 will.

you could always buy a 17 ft drag boat then you can use the 340 as the anchor
