Default 72 vin

Can the month and day my 72 was built, be deciphered from the VIN? Also, does anyone reproduce VIN Tags? Mine is kinda of rough.

Hi mf,
I don't think you want a repro VIN tag if you can avoid it in ANY way. There are LOTS of serious legal issues with replacing a VIN tag.
The VIN sequence number can tell what month and perhaps what week the car was built by reviewing the monthly production totals for 72.
The build date for the body (which should be within a day or two of the car's build date) is on the 'trim tag' which is pop riveted to the driver's side hinge pillar. The tag also has the code for the exterior color and the color of the interior, along with standard or De-luxe.
The build date code is a letter for the month and one or two digits for the day.
F14 ... January 14th.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Alan

Yes and no. You could do the math and get close to an actual date by comparing published production figures.

It's easier to check the time/build date in the upper right corner of the trim tag on the driver's door post. That will give you the date the car passed the station on the assembly line where the tag was attached. The car would probably not have been completed on that day, but it's fairly close to an actual birthday for your car.

As posted earlier, you can do a good estimate of the day yours rolled off by adding a few days to the trim tag date, or looking at the production figures for your month. Also, the C3 Regisry Site has this little program that takes your VIN and spits out a "birthday". It's just an estimate as well, but shouuld get you clsoe. Link follows.
