Default Clean rust from hubs

I'm working on my brakes and have the front hubs off. I wanted to clean the rust off the back and paint them but the rust is harder to get off than I expected. I'm using the Lysol Power toilet cleaner but it's sloooooow. Is there a faster way or should I just neutralize the rust with Rustoleum and paint over it?

I'm not familiar with using the Lysol product, but I was thinking maybe some naval jelly and a wire brush attachment on an electric drill.

I agree with redman, the only why to go is a wire brush. I did that with mine and had to wear a mask because there was so much rusty dust in the air. You have to put some muscle into it and takes a fare amount of time, but well worth it. Heres how mine looked before and after.

and the finished product

Thanks for the replies. The Lysol works, but very slowly on the thick rust on the back of the hub. The wire brush did the trick. I tried a fine one, but it wasn't enough so used a coarse one. Hitting it with the brush, then some scrubbing with the Lysol a few times and it's gone! I'll post some pics soon.

Leave the Lysol in the bathroom. Coarse wire brush, a coating of 'rust converter' to change it into inert coating, then paint with Dupli-color "Cast Iron" colored Engine Enamel. (DO NOT paint on the area contacted by the brake pads.) They will look like new....and they will stay like new.

You may want to check to ensure the Lysol is not leaving behind deposits on your rotors.
