I have been on a lot of forums, but it seems people here do the "PM Sent" thing more than anywhere on the web. Why? In my book when someone asks "Where do I find something?" Someone will say PM Sent....then I am curious, did they just give them a link? Do they have one and don't want anyone to know? And with everything going private, sometimes you get just plain curious as to the disposition, especially in a performance or issue related thread. If someone really wants noone to know thier business I understand, but sometimes it is helpful to see the links, to read the fixes and to really know when something was sold....just my 2 cents, tell me if I'm off base and I will shut up...

One thing I do like here is that there is no shortage of Smart A$$es!
OK, OK, I'll answer more seriously. I rarely use "PM sent", because I feel it is redundant. Once you are on the board, there is a notification at the top that you have an unopened PM, so it's kind of silly IMO to post that to make you come onto the board, come into the C3 General list, click on your thread, just to see "PM sent" when you've already been notified.

Shut up!!!!!!!!!!!....just kidding with you. Most PM's are sent for the reason you have already stated....its really nobody's business but their's, that's why its called a PRIVATE MESSG. Most, if not all, useful info is replied directly to the OP's thread, for all to read. So, put the paranoia away, nobody here is trying to hide specific info from you. Hang around awhile and you shall get the gist for most of the guy's and gal's here.

I understand, it just seems to be more prevalant here. I have seen someone ask a technical question that I was interested in because I may have the same issue, someone says PM sent and then nothing more ever. Im glad he got help , but wished I had been able to read it as well. I do like this place and learn everyday and throw my expertise in as well, I just found this curious basically. Thanks!
I think, in the case of the For Sale Forum, when somebody says "PM sent" it is telling all the rest of us that THEY are "FIRST IN LINE" for the item for sale...
Again, redundant and just plain silly.

That is true, and even more than redundant its purposeless, as there are no "first in line" privilege rules for sales on the forum. I think this being the case, people put PM sent to scare away additional buyers.
However, when Im selling and someone asks a question about a particular part, Ill put PM sent to show I answered the question without sharing peoples personal business with others. I think there are people concerned about certain privacy issues here that other people think is silly... like those of us who do not post a location until specifically asked.
OP... its simple, if you are specifically interested in the answer to a posted question and someone posts "PM sent," simply ask them to post the answer.
Hi! I PMed a moderator the answer to your question, but he appears to be on vacation,, so once he gets back next month, you should have an answer, if he forwards it to you. Or i'll send you a plane ticket, and you can meet my entire crew of corvette experts,, and we'll all privately answer any question you have, about anything in existence, privately, one on one. No need for anyone else to know..... WTF.....
"Dont ask stupid questions". "You Americans are very stupid". I can still here those words coming from my German bred electronics instructor. I barely survived that class. He scared everyone out. I should have been one of those too. In the end, maybe 5 students left...a brain surgeon interested in understanding electronics and a few 4 yr degreed students taking a refresher course. Anyways about the pm...do a search cause I remember someone asked the same stupid question not long ago. This time it wasn't me.

Alot of times someone will send someone a PM when answering a question that has been asked and answered a billion times...i just figured it was a way of decreasing lengthy and repetitive posts...just my 2 cents...
I often receive PM questions from forum members who, for their own reasons, want a question answered without adding to an existing thread. These questions almost always concern their particular car or model year. If I recieve a PM, I reply by PM.
I sometimes recieve PM messages from members who want information without publicly embarassing someone else who has posted.
I send PM messages when I seek further information.

Or depending on the topic send a PM and ask for the answer.
