Hi everyone. Just got a 79 t-top with rebuild 350 and 4spd in it for a trade. I was always drooling over an old vette, and now i got one. I have it as a daily driver for now, although my work commute is about 7 min each way. I can't stop driving this thing around.
Now to business: I got bunch of little things wrong with the car(duh it's 1979). Clock doesn't work, there are bunch of dings everywhere on the body, reverse lights dont work, lens on taillights are cracked etc.
But the main thing is t-top leaks into the storage compartment (i was told that by previous owner). I took them off and weather strip is really in good shape. What can be a problem? Is there a well known fix for this? I need to fix this thing before it starts to rain.
I also have a million questions about this car and i hope someone will be able to answer them. But t-tops need to be fixed first.

Welcome to the forum. There is no question you could have that someone here can't answer. I am sure someone will post in how to fix your t-tops, just hang in there.

There is a blurb in the assembly instruction manual (AIM) on T-top adjustment and it's in the chassis service manual. It amounts to individually snugging them down.

If you have glass tops, follow the procedures in the AIM. The glass tops sit higher at the halo panel than the fiberglass tops. Do not try to make them fit flush. You'll break them.

Caveat: even with the tops adjusted to spec, they will not keep out 100% of the rain 100% of the time.

Willcox has the AIM on CD and I suspect he'll have the FSM too.

Easy Mike has a great point- be nice to the glass tops if you have them- I broke one in 1984, and it wasn't cheap then! Break one now and you need a 3 year bank loan.

Hi Ramashkaus! I'm Willcox! Welcome aboard!

The CD can be found at this link and it ships freight free. We are having a problem with the shipping code right now but if the site charges shipping sales will edit it off.

Mike is correct, the cars are susceptible to leaks even when adjusted properly.
