RED..Red..rED... so many different reds... opinions requested...
going to pick the exact color tomorrow... maybe tuesday,,,, but what I was once so sure of now I am doubtful... and I would like some opinions.
Yes I understand that color is hard to define and what is beautiful to one is not necessarily to another. This is the reason I ask for some opinions.
I was going to paint her; #81 victory red, but then I was looking at the Torch red #70 and it just seems to jump out more,,, brighter, but... it also looks like it may have a little orange to it, and I do not like an orange red,,,,, i like more of a blue red... but i want it to pop like an orange red.... I am trying to make sense,,,,But then there is also 81, bright red........
O... then today I saw a new Challenger, it was a awesome red..
My questions:
1. what color reds did chevy paint vets with from 79 to present?
2. What is your favorite red?
3. Does it lean more towards orange or blue in the spectrum?
sitting here going through all these color books I took home.... I really would like your input... thx...

[QUOTE=pauldana;1572489298]My questions:
1. what color reds did chevy paint vets with from 79 to present?/QUOTE]
1979: Corvette Red #72
1980: Red #83
1981: Red #75, also Autum Red #80 paired w/ Dark Claret #98
1982: Red #70
I don't know if the reds from 80 - 82 are different or if they just have different codes.
Here is a list of all Corvette paint colors:
http://www.corvettepaintcodes.com/
I've read (no pun intenderd) that the color red has the most variations of all colors.

pauldana,
Man, I was in your shoes a year ago!! I think, if you DONT stay original, the choice of color is the hardest choice to make in a resto. I beat myself up for weeks trying to figure out the "right" color!!
I also took a look at the Challenger, and decided I didnt like the color for a vintage C3. Had I not gone for Hugger Orange, it would have been Torch.
I just bought a Victory Red C6...it definitely DOES NOT have the pop of Torch Red.
I'd go with Torch Red... (has ONLY enough "orange" to make it really stand out).

I'm having my 73 convertible painted this week - I decided to go with C6 Victory Red. It's a deeper red than Torch Red - but it's up to you. There are too many colors of red to choose from.

IMO, the best RED ever on a Corvette was #976, Mille Miglia Red (1971-73). Check out the red car at the end of this webpage:

I'll tell ya right now...forget the sample books and forget computer pictures. You HAVE to go out and look at cars, IF you are considering "new" colors. Go find a dealership and look. I looked at cars I passed on the street and actually (respectfully) stopped the drivers to ask if they knew what color?? I jotted down the make and model of cars I saw and got on the the web to look up codes, or went to the dealers and looked for ones on the lot!!
I had decided on repainting the original Ontario Orange, until I saw one in Seattle, and it just didnt do it for me. Great color, but when I saw it in person I didnt really like it as much.
I went to car shows to see the original colors...
Bottom line is, at $600/gallon, you cant afford to make a mistake, right??
Here's a link to a thread I started a yr ago...
Good luck!

Don't make your decision based on paint 'chips' in a color book. The color on the car will look different than it does on a small chip. I agree with the above comment on finding a car with the color you want and asking what year/model it is to research the color code...or get the color name/code from the owner (unlikely that owner would know that info).

Man, I have been going through the same thing the last month or so. I am not there yet so I have some time. I had a local paint store mixed me up some of thier Matrix "Sunrise Red" I have not yet sprayed it. Good luck with your color hunt!

If, you are considering going outside the original GM factory Red's....you may wish to look at the Ferrari and Lamborghini Red's. I am sure one of these shall meet your taste.

Yea..... you know, I think some one at the paint store told me that.... I also believe hearing that Ferrari puts a blue base coat on then sprays the red.... i think.. or something like that....... I will look into that more today... thx..
