Default Steering wheel play

Anyone got an opinion as to how to cure play in steering wheel of 72 conv. She has about 170k miles, mostly rebuilt, but steering is original.
Thanks for any help

Use the Forums search feature and search for Jim Shea. He is the steering Guru on the Forum. There should be plenty of info to get you started. mds...

The first thing to do is check for a bad rag joint on the steering shaft. With that many miles on it , the joint is probably ready to break if it hasn't been replaced.

Have someone sit in the driver seat and turn the steering right & left. You look at the rag joint to see any play. If there is no play in the rag joint, then it is the steering box or something in the steering assembly.

Take the lash out. That will tighten her up a little. Just the same, 170K is a lot of miles.
