Default 1975 Corvette, Researching Steel Blue Cars.

I have been on the hunt for other 1975 Steel Blue Corvettes for quiet a few years now. I have found several out there and some of those owners have given me their VIN's, Trim Code Info, as well as the date code on their driver door jam stickers. I've found the information fascinating since I own one of these beauties. I've read that Steel Blue was available for approx 3 months. My coupe being a Nov. production and aquiring a VIN of an Oct production Steel Blue lead me to think that Steel Blues were Oct, Nov, Dec. production cars. Also, I had been told that the L82 option was not available until March of 1975. Therefore it would stand to reason there were no L82 Steel Blue Corvettes produced. This past couple of days I have been communicating with another forum member who is the 2nd owner of another Steel Blue car. The original owner of this car is his dad. The production date of his car is Feb '75. His VIN is 7,383 cars produced after mine. The latest date of a Steel Blue car I have is 3,192 cars later than the Feb producted car. I'm enjoying this research very much and I verified and double checked everything. Many even send me pictures of VIN's, Trim Tags, and Door Stickers for proof. I just wanted to share with anyone else who may be interested.

You may need to keep researching Steel Blue. The NCRS archives list the following: "...if I'm remembering what I read about this once correctly, the three months used were Nov, Dec of '74 and Jan of '75...Have a pic of window sticker + car #..410640...My original steel blue 1975 model convertible was build A29. It's serial 2085..."

You've found October, November, and a February car.

It's beginning to look like Steel Blue may have been around for longer than three months.

Thank you very much for that info ! Yes, the research continues... I have been collecting info for a few years now. I'm really narrowing it down, and it's info like you gave me that makes it possible. It still looks like there were no L82 Steel Blue Corvettes produced

Interesting stuff here, I have a 407743 coupe, was steel blue when i picked it up in 1975 ( now steel city gray ).
Is there a chart showing all the places where i might get the rest of the info for the paint codes, int codes etc? I have the window sticker also.

Your Trim Tag on the drivers side door hinge post tells you Trim code (interior) Paint code, and date of production. Thank you for the reply about your car. If your car was steel blue originally. Your paint code should be 27L. If you tell me your other codes I will be happy to help de-code them for you ... or if you have a Corvette Black Book the info is in there to help decode them.

Default Steel blue

The info on the door says, trim 192, 27L paint,
The blue sticker said GM 12/74.
Black int, air, power steering, tilt wheel, power windows, power brakes
Its a 165 hp, 8.5 compression, turbo 400, 3.08 rear end
Soon as we get a warm spell i will get the engine, trans codes.
One would think that after owning a car for 35 years that i should of had all this info already !

Well you can count my 78 out. Previous owner repainted original baby blue to steel blue. Nothing against the color, except for lousy prep and paint. Its going to 73 Dark Blue. By any chance, have you researched that color.

If no L82 s were made early in the year ......then there were no Warner M21 trans installed either .

I have an August first week built M21 Warner in my 74 Camaro tho ....

Steel blue with silver interior is stunning. There was one in my area for sale back in 2018 when I was looking for a C3. It needed paint and interior work but otherwise was all original and I would have loved to have bought it but the dealer wanted more than I felt it was worth. I would like to have one someday.

Great color. Wonder why they dropped it so quickly?

I had one from 1984 to about 2012. Steel blue with a silver deluxe interior, but crank windows.

Maybe the numbers? It was the rarest '75 color with only 1,268 built.

Yes, but that's probably due to it only being available fof 3 or 4 months.
