Well, excuse me for just asking a question. I'm sorry I'm not as informed as you apparently are on the illuminating mechanisms of old cars. Before you insult someone's intelligence, take the time to rid yourself of your own ignorance. I'm sure you can read. And I congratulate you for being able to do so. I, too, can read. While you may be a whole three years older than me, I assure you, your grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization errors remind me of my cousin. Who is in the third grade. I was simply asking a question as to where the light came from. I never said that the seller told me it was original. I said someone I know... who collects Corvettes... said it may have been possible. Let this be a lesson. Don't judge others based on your own ignorance.
And to those poking fun at my emblems: I'm sure you also have been in a position, when restoring your vette, where you hit a snag and have to hold off on the little details. Did you not see at the top of the picture where it says "Here is my 78 ROLLING PROJECT"??? I calculate not. So please, if you don't know... Don't say anything. Again, don't judge others based on your own ignorance.
Cory
hey I am sorry if you thought it was a insult. I take that back. ask all the questions you can think of that's how we all learn. I learned a whole lot on this board and asked a lot of dumb questions. along the way I learned a lot. I hope you stay on here and keep us updated on your project.
And the point of your little tirade was what??? If it wasn't condecension, what was it? Like I said before, it was merely a question. Dumb or not, we've all been in the middle of a resto. There are no dumb questions and there is no such thing as a No-Win senario. I'm not offended, I don't have time to be. I was just kind of hoping for a real, helpful answer. Not a condecending, you're kidding me, ocean front property in friggen Colorado bull**** answer. But thanks for the time and effort you put into it anyway.

Dude, not poking fun at all, your car looks in a damn site better condition than mine! Details are always the last to be done, I understand this better than anyone.
Most of us started with a project like yours. Don't worry about the emblems, by the time you get around to replacing them you may decide to remove them all together.
I have a 78 CORVETTE emblem I bought but decided to leave it and the side fender ones off.
Does anybody know exactly how many 78's were built with the third brake light over the bubble? Or if there were any. My 78 has one and it looks very original... Info please.
Cory
Cory, I installed the exact same 3rd brake light on my 79, it came from a C4 corvette and fit's the roof line perfect so it would look original to some folks. But as stated above, no C3's had a 3rd light anywhere from the factory. Hope this helps answer where it may have come from.
I tell everyone, I hooked mine up so when they catch up to me again they could see I'm braking..

That's an old picture. Almost a year and a half. The emblem is gone and the holes covered... I pulled it off, maybe 4 months ago. Im not really planning on keeping the rear bumper... swapping for 74 split... I wasnt offended, I just dont like being singled out. I know most of the guys on the Forum have started with projects like mine and I also know what the Vette does to us. I mean, we're driving the Real American Dream, are we not? It's a piece of history. Harley Earl and Zora Arkus-Duntov would surely be very proud to see how their "Baby" has matured into a powerhouse all its own. We don't buy, restore and drive Vettes to be better than the rest. We buy, restore and drive Vettes because someone, somewhere down the line in the family, put the Car idea in our heads. We do it for love. Like I said, we've all started somewhere. Some with just a few pieces of a shell. Others, like me, with whole cars that just need some TLC. Its all a labor of love. And I hope that is never lost.

Since I was the only person to comment on your emblems I assume your retort is directed at me. If you are going to be so thin-skinned that you can't take a bit of dry humor along with an answer to your question you are going to have a hard time in this forum. There are many members who are going to write things that are far more blunt than either I or the other poster wrote in response to your questions, so get used to it.
I have gained a lot of knowledge from this forum in the last 9 years and I pass that knowledge along where applicable. I have also learned that calling people 'ignorant' is not a wise thing to do. My project has involved totally rebuilding a 1972 chassis and engineering a LS1/T56 transplant. In less than 50 posts you have succeeded in alienating me and probably other long-time members who would be able to give you a lot of help. Good luck.

Like I said, I'm not offended, I don't have the time or patience to be offended. Nor am I thin-skinned. I just have a problem with being singled out. And, therefore single no one out in response. I congratulate you, also, for your hard work on your car. Not many people are as talented. But as I said before, I'm sure you all have been at a point, when working on a project, you hit a snag and can't really take care of the little details at the moment. I believe you took my statement on ignorance, out of context. It was not my intention to call anyone ignorant. I'm terribly sorry that you, yourself, aren't thick-skinned enough to take my comment about ignorance jokingly. Seeing as how you are such a funny person. I can't believe that something as simple as an aftermarket add-on to MY car has turned into such a PROBLEM for everyone on the forum. I simply asked where the thing came from, and was not looking for 'dry humor.' Simply, I was looking for clues as to where it came from. But thanks for the humor, as you can see, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I did not see any humor in some of the posts but that is typical of the Forum these days. That light looks good to me.

Thank you. That is the reponse that I expected. As I said before, good luck.
Hi,
I believe F is right about 85. I remember that's how I could tell an 84 from an 85.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Regards,
Alan
Actually, it was the 1986 year model that had the first center high mounted stop light - required that year by new federal requirements. I know this because I bought an '86 and it was the easiest way to ID a new Corvette that year. The Corvette Black Book, pg. 90 in the 2008 edition backs this up.
I put the same light on my 75,
and I think it looks great, looks
like it came from the factory
like that.
OUCH.. Looks like we're startin off the new year in rare form in here ..
But all kidding aside I would like to see a photo of that light on your '75... if you have one handy ....
thanks ..
