Hi Guys...
The more I look at the luggage rack on my 75 convertible, the more I wish I had just filled the mounting holes and not used it. I think it ruins the lines of the best looking body shape ever put on a Corvette....
IMHO. I'll probably get beat up for that
How many people actually use the rack for luggage or anything else, bags of mulch, bags of sand, bags of potting soil, bags of quikcrete,
or lumber? Just wondering
Enjoy !
Larry
My car has it's problems with the body, and I thought the luggage rack looked bad, too. It was getting rusty and pitted. I took it off and went to the hardware store and bought some trim buttons. Painted them the same color as the car and pushed them into the rubber well nuts. It looks better than not having them on.
I like them, I don't have one but I wouldn't mind if my current car had come equipped! A couple of my friends are adamant that it ruins the lines...to each his own!

I love mine, I have 5 cars and I find myself driving my Vette almost everyday,so it's convenient to have it on when I am out and have to bring something home rather than go home and get my truck or other car. With over 350,000 miles in 32 years I've used it quite a few hundred times. Mine is the style that you can remove with a few bolts so it's not a big deal to take it off and on if you want to.
My 69 coupe has one and it's been there since it left the dealer. While I don't mind it being there, I'll probably take it off if/when I do a repaint. I don't dislike them with or without really. It's one of those things, it was of the era. While it does require a little extra elbow grease when shining all the chrome, I certainly wouldn't make a decision to purchase based on a luggage rack!
Heck, my Hummer H3 doesn't have any racks on top, and I could have used them when I bought a couple 8' pcs. of trim over this past summer!
dariopop,
Yours is the FIRST Corvette I've seen that has a luggage rack similar to mine. Mine has the two knurled ***** at the rear and the two hinges at the front. I thought that it must have been a home-made unit until I saw your picture.
I'm guessing that there were a few different manufacturers of racks, depending on which part of the country you call home. I see that you have a Connecticut plate, so maybe my car was first sold in this area. It's a May 1974 build. BTW, what's all that white stuff on the ground?
I can see the use of it on a vert, but it just looks off IMHO, I can see even more of a use with it with T-tops, my dads 72 coupe has the luggage rack and he uses it all the time for his T-tops, and I think it looks ok on his car, but if its not a chrome bumper coupe, the luggage rack looks REALLY off
