Not really- the racks supplied to the dealers by GM all came from the same supplier. The design with the hinges is one of probably half a dozen sold as pure aftermarket pieces.

I think they came with the dealer installed rack, but Im sure that you could find aftermarket ones that would work, ecklers perhaps

It's all up to what YOU want, its your car......

This is a pissing match that comes up about 2-3 times a year. Bottom line is if ya don't like it get rid of it. I like the way mine looks and I use it. I think all 68-77's look better with them on, but thats my opinion. As for mine, it'll stay there as long as I own the car......

Good move - LOOKS WAY BETTER luggage racks ruins the sexy body lines of these cars!!! Just my $0.02. Took mine off, TOSSED IN THE TRASH, filled the holes and have no regrets. Have a truck for hauling purposes!!!

If I were going to paint my car, I would probably remove the rack but it's the only thing I have to drive for now so the rack stays. You never know when you might need to haul something.

I like the look and as long as I own our 72, it's staying.

I had the option of filling in the holes and doing away with it but decided against it.

To me it completes the back of the car and I like the way it looks.

Looking at your picture, and comparing it to the mounts that are on my car, I think this is the luggage rack that was on my car at some point. Do you have any information on this one or know how I can aquire one like yours?

Heres mine:

Does this look like the same kind as you have?

GREAT FOR T-TOPS. Never for anything else. Yes, bought a 24"tv and put the box on top on the rack and drove it home about 10km (6 miles). no problem.
Don't have a convertable, so this does the trick and I have lots of room inside for personal belongings, etc.

If you only Let your car sit in the Garage ... just cruise a few City Streets... or Race it... a "Rack" would not be of much use. but if you operate your Vette as a "Open Road Cruiser"...it helps to define the word "Sports Car" ... Besides it comes off very quickly and 8 chromed, or body colored round headed screws latter...it is hard to tell it even had one.
I use it very often for all different uses ... such as Targa Tops...Tail-Gate Meals or Drinks... Surf Boards... Wet Car Covers ... 2 x 4s... Just to name a few.
If it did not have one, then my '77 would just be sitting in the garage, or maybe in about
10 thousand pieces... Just no time for a un-needed restro... I do not consider it just a Luggage thing. Wait after "thinkingaboutit"... I never have put any luggage on Her...Maybe I should, and head off into the Sunset...and be guided by the Stars at night... Deep In The Heart Of Texas. " Rolling Olen and T-Top Toni "

Never though about lawn mowers...before!
