I have a 78 vette, the engine has the # VO925TTO and the vin# of the car is not next to it. Would this have been a replacement engine or would any of you know? The engine bay and everything looks like it was factory, shields and all.
....years ago I judged a 4.3mile(yes, 4.3 miles)1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette and it had the VIN# stamped on that vertical pad or boss next to the oil filter like a '69 Camaro Z/28 does. Had to have been one of the strangest C3 things I've seen since I've been in this hobby since 1987.
Engines with a TTO suffix came from a 1970 medium duty Chev truck.
...good call Mike. After looking up '78 engine codes as many times as I have, you would've thought I could have caught that one.
...the above post I did earlier is true though. Was at an NCRS Meet in Cumberland, MD. Things as odd as that was you don't forget.
...that 4.3 mile '78 SA car was sooooooo original, the decal on the oil filter was sliding down the side due to age and was just hanging there. Was one of the most "real" original cars I've ever judged.
That is wierd, not really though, considering most people who had a late 70s vette wanted any other engine but a 185hp detuned wonder. I did here the engine was rebuilt, but why would someone put all that crap back on it. Anyway, thanks that answers the ? I didnt think TTO was correct. I drove it into my garage when I bought it and up it went on stands. Not alot of work to do on it but some. Maybe it has more power than an original, I hope so.

I think I remember Tom Russo talking about that car too. Always cool to see stuff like that.

Truck engines are a common find as replacement motors in Corvettes, most of them are 4 bolt blocks which always impresses the bench racers.
I guess when it comes down to it I liked the fact that it did have all that extra stuff on it, just a little peaved that it didnt have the original block, I should have looked at it closer. Would have bought it anyway, it sure looked original. When I get done with it, it will be back to its glory with all the bells on it and its different block. Show Driver
