The final year of any generation. They've improved it as far as GM was willing to go before a redesign.
Esp true with C3's, the 82 was targeted more toward the cruising buyer than previous yrs.....hence only the Auto, mono-leafspring, lots of bells/whistles, etc.

I agree, the newer the car, the less creaks and groans in the ride..

I'll tell you my 81 is tight on head room, I am 6'2 and I have maybe an inch to spare. If I had to wear a helmet for a auto-cross or such, the top would have to come off!! Also, I have a 4-speed and the gas and brake controls are so close together it's hard to drive with shoes on.
