Why not more convertibles?
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
There was a very stock red 427 chrome bumper T-top vette and a few cars down another red Chrome bumper car but a Convertible with the top off....no one took a second look at the coupe but people were milling around the Convertible,
So I just mingle and listen...I hear a fellow say to his buddy lets go see the BB car and the buddy snaps back...who cares it's a coupe...so I stroll to the coupe and hear at least 3-4 other people who do will past make snide remarks like "Too bad it's not a Convertible"
I am guessing part comes from a Convertible normally has higher value and so many people are about dollars and cents....to me the Convertible it "more" sports car and more sexy....
But the T tops were a good option for some people....
I think you mean to ask how do I explain more "coupes" were sold...coupes were not "hardtops" that was a removable piece on the convertible with that option, all coupes were T Top.
Didn't all the others opinions explain well enough why in 75 a convertible was cheaper from chevy?
The early mid 70's were an odd time, low HP outputs and high gas prices were kicking in, Lots of hype at the time a convertible was a death trap.
T-Tops went with the times like the Gold Disco medallions, and poly leisure suits,
And at the risk of getting flamed 74-75 or smooth slope bumper vettes didn't look as good as a Convertible as the chrome bumper cars did..."Joe Cool" wanted "now" and chrome bumper cars were "yesterday", it was that era.
LOL...go look at a coupe 75 today unless it's pretty darn nice it isn't going to sell for much...
Now take a ratty 75 convertible and it will sell faster and for more....in fact while 74-75 coupe in themselves are not too sought after a 74-75 convertible is.

I thought he was a "limp wrist" who just liked to poke at convertibles,
I am happy we have that cleared up....

I always see coupe vs Convertible threads turn into some bashing of how Convertibles look top up....to me I never liked the cove back or "Kamm" back of the 68-77 coupe, it was a rip off of the European cars of the day like the Dino...if a person digs the overseas look then buy the Dino, pkay...that is a bit radical coupes are cool too

While I admit no convertible really looks great with the rag top up the 68-72 vette looks so sweet with the hard top on....since GM didn't go with the Mako louvered rear then the sloped wrapped rear glass of the removable hardtop is the look. the best of both worlds is the removable hardtop

T-tops...I have heard them called things like Poor mans convertible...redneck convertible, and that isn't fair they are pretty cool if person wants that pseudo convertible feel but doesn't want to go all the way, just for me the stigma is I see open T Tops on any car I can't get the image of Burt in his TA out of my head.
To me the black 71 in this thread sums up to me what a perfect Corvette really is...while I would drop the top at a show this car is just stunning and if it was a coupe I wouldn't have even noticed it.
We all have our personal tastes and opinions and none are wrong... heck some people love brown 79's
