Fired the engine up last weekend and it runs great...better than ever. Went thru more than a few problems, but that's what makes it fun, right? Pre-oiling found a leak in the oil pressure gauge line and filling the cooling system found a leaky gasket on the back of the water pump. Also found myself off by a tooth on the distributor. Just waiting on a new correct coil before putting the ignition shielding back on. Removed the new Allen's 2-1/2" exhaust system to have it finish welded. They are LOUD, and that Comp Cam sounds a little better than the stock original. Someday I may add a correct (but disabled) smog system. Until I get it up on a rack to take pictures of the underside, here are a few of the engine compartment........
Very nice and sounds good too. I'm with Alan. Love the textured look. What did you use on the firewall?
Terry
I used SEM #39143 Trim Black for the minimal engine compartment blackout. That texture you see appears to be only in that location on the firewall...must have come out of the mold that way. I just cleaned the original firewall and didn't go crazy with the spray bomb. Plan on using the same paint on the underside of the hood. Good stuff, dries hard but sputters a little too much for me. I really prefer the NAPA Martin Senour line of paints...Chassis Black on the frame and Black Lacquer on some of the trim pieces. They spray clean and even the entire can. Their Hot Rod Gray primer and Self Etching primer for bare metal work well with these finish paints.
