Default Got YOMmed !!!

After more than 7 months and a few runs to the DMV, I finally got the stickers for the YOM plates for my 69 Vette.

Anyone else here got YOM plates for their 63-69 cars?
If yes, I have a few questions...

1) Is it mandatory to use the steel tab and display both year stickers? I would like to avoid mounting the steel tab and just attach the new sticker directly on to the license plate.

2) I have a month sticker for 'May' Not sure why DMV sent me a new month sticker. Do I have to use the new sticker? Can I use the old month sticker that's already on the plate?

I've got YOM plates on my 65. I'm not using the metal tabs. I think as long you are displaying the current stickers you're okay.

1. Yes you should have the current year sticker on the car so you won't get pulled over. I would run it on the steel tab, why cover up your 69 sticker that you no doubt paid good money for.

2. The original May sticker on the plate is fine, no need to run the new one.

Just did this for my son's 69 Camaro

Hey Fordman,
Thanks for responding.
I am going to save the original year sticker now and put it on after I restore the plates. As you guessed, I had to buy the original sticker separate and it is not attached to the plate yet. For now, I am going to put the new sticker directly on the plate.

Just out of curiosity, how do one place the tab on the rear plate of a Vette with the license plate area being recessed into the body?

I am still scouring ebay for a nice 68 plate. NC has a very liberal law - I can display just about any YOM I want on my vehicle as long as I carry the DMV issued standard plate in the car with me.

DMV must have been in a good mood when you registered on the black plates. I had to put the month and 69 sticker on the plate in front of them. Luckily the plates had just gotten back from being refurbished.

A friend with a 68 had a machinist friend of his mill a sort of tear drop shaped flat plate that the current year sticker mounts to and fits within the recessed license plate area.

The plates that went on my son's 69 Camaro were a set I had for years that were on a 69 I owned many years ago.

I stuck them temporarily using double sided tape just before going to the DMV and took it off after I came back from the DMV

They just needed to photocopy it with the stickers on.

I got rejected twice.
1) For not having the stickers, which the registration form does not ask for. The clerk accepted my plates, but got rejected from Sacramento two months later.

2) The clerk photo copied my plate with a 20% reduction on the copier and Sac rejected again saying that it was a fake odd sized plate.

Who refurbished the plates for you? I am looking for someone to refurbish the plates for me. One of them has a little dent in it and will need some straightening.

I have given up on my YOM, I have wasted 3 trips to the DMV just to be told now that I need 69 tabs. It's not worth it to me, I'll just keep the blue plates on my blue car.
If they would have made it just a little eaiser I might reconsider, but now I have a perfect set of gold on black plates on display in my garage forever.

I used this guy for my 1940 Ford, the plates when I bought them originally were not too bad but not perfect, when I got them back I was very impressed, beyond perfect, still today and that was 9 years ago ! Check him out,

I was lucky. One trip to the dmv.

I don't understand the emphasis on the stickers. I was able to peel back to original 65 stickers. (Sold a 68 and 66. 67 didn't survive the removal). The plate has two 65 stickers that had been there since 65. The DMV clerk was all interested that I had two stickers and wrote down both numbers. She didn't even look at my front plate. I can't find anywhere on the registration or title that shows the sticker numbers.

Darryl's is good but his turn around time is really slow. I used his service in the past on yellow YOM plates. Took about 3-4 months.

Got the 69 plates done at Mojo Art Works I believe they're in Virginia.
got them back in 6 weeks and that looked great plus they neded some straightening as well. Mojo does have a website.

....same way in Ohio. No major deal at all.

...I just happened to find this set of plates at a swap meet for like $20. The significance is "Young Paul, 42yrs old".

Wow, 3-4 months is entirely too long to wait, when Darrryl did mine it only took 2 weeks, dunno why but I was happy cause my wife at the time was pissed that I spent 60 bux to buy the plates and then 60 bux to get em redone and she kept on telling me that I'd regret it when it would take too long and we'd miss all the driving time, shes gone now thank God. Peace,,,Moosie
