73 vs. 68-72 years

Melting Slicks
I've been doing a LOT of thinking about it these last few days and will continue to do so until my vette sells and i come to the point of actually needing make a decision.
I guess i can have 2 objectives and "maybe" I'll be able to fulfill them both.
1. I'd like to learn how to restore an old car.
2. I'd like a drivable modern C3 that I'll enjoy the hell out of.
Buying an early C3 is going to set me back a LOT in the $$ department but i'll most likely have a drivable C3. But with not a lot of money left over to try and restore it. Or even the guts to do so.
But i could buy a MUCH cheaper later year C3 and wouldn't feel so scared when it comes time to ripping it apart and learning how to fix things.
Say i can't get a early C3 for less then 12-13k. But i can get a decent later C3 for say 6-7K. I guess right now i'd rather have the car i love the looks of the most(early C3) and wait to be able to fix it up to my liking. But knowing me some super awesome deal might present itself and things can change in an instant.

Get the body style you want - that is not easy or cheap to change. To do some of the restoration items does not require the car to be off-road for long periods. Replacing the interior carpet, seats, and door panels can be done in a couple days, while replacing the drivetrain items will take much longer - good winter time work. I preferred to drive the car and work on it as I got the money to do things.

I just purchased a 73 vert last fall in pieces.I couldn't pass on the price.I was looking for a 69 and didn't care too much for the 73.I liked the fact that it had the rear bumpers and it was a vert. After starting to piece the car back together I noticed the wheel wells were flared more than the 68 to 72 cars. Now after months of looking and working on it every day,I would have a hard time going back to a 68 to 72.When I see the 68 to 72's now they look like the sides were shaved. Thats my opinion but Im sure whatever you get you will love it and never go without one again.

I did not know the rear flares are wider on a 73 than on the 68-72. is that a fact or is your 73 modified.

'68 & '69 did not have any flares behind the wheelwells.

Punisher.. I just noticed you are from Champaign... I've got a few buddies up there. When I get my car back on the road again, I plan to take it up there. If you want, maybe I could meet up with you and show you what its like to ride in a '73.

That would be awesome. Only corvette i've ever driven in has been my 96 so it's probably a good idea to ride in the type i'm thinking about getting.
