Check out www.tirerack.com. They have a lot of info on tires of all kind. If your going to run stock size wheel and tires, I like the BF Goodrich myself. There are a lot of people here that can help and give you many more options.
Bought mine at Tire Discounters for around $400.00 or so with Lifetime rotation and Alignment out the door.

Stock. 255/60R15 on a 15x8 wheel. Yes the tire technology is not as good as it is in the 17 and 18 inch world. but at least you can bolt them on and drive without having to modify stuff. I paid $400.00 for all 4. I went with Cooper Cobra Gt Radials.
If you want redlines, figure the price to be about double per tire compared to either blackwall or white letter.
I have redlines from Diamondback Tire...they're Cooper Cobra with redline added. You can also get BFG with redlines from Coker Tire...the difference between the two is only a few dollars. Both are excellent companies to deal with.

I love the looks of the T/A's and have had them on my vette for years, however after switching to the Firestone Firehawks I would never go back to the T/A's. Better ride, handling and if you ever get caught in rain you'll definately appreciate these tires. I'm running 255's on front and 275's on the rear. My next tire will be on new 18" rims to get the benefits of new technology and design.
for a stock rim the firstones are the way to go as stated above. i have them now and like them. i wasnt crazy about the white lettering, but it grows on you.
I need tires for my 80 and I have written to TIRE RACK and never got any response from no one, I live in Canada and was willing to pick them up in Ogensberg NY , so if any one from tire rack is listening get in touch with me . Ron
You can buy BFG T/A Radials at Sam's Club [if you have a membership] for about $90 per tire. Have them installed with lifetime balance (about $40 I think), and you get them balanced and rotated for FREE whenever you take them in. Hard to beat that deal. [Note: The narrowest T/A they stock is 235 width...most everyone wants that or wider.]

Why didn't you just have them installed with the lettering on the inside, instead of facing out?
Our '78 had BFG TA's on it when purchased. Last spring changed to Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's to go along with the pace car look. Over time, the Firestones have received some pretty positive feedback. I bought these at the local Firestone dealer.
Really don't run our car hard, so was basically going for the 'look' that I wanted. We put about 1,000 miles on it yearly. They should time out long before wearing out.
I recently heard that tires from Sam's Club are blems. A guy at work had a very bad shaking in his Honda Minivan. Dealer's mechanic showed him that his front tires were out of round. They were Goodyears from Sam's Club.

Deja
cause i like the look of white lettering just not the firestone firehawk 500. i like the bft/as better but when you compare the 2 and read the write ups firestone is the way to go.....
then I just got used to the Indy's look - I just found the T/A's frightening to drive and they did not last all that long either, which didn't matter as I just wanted them off the vette. Even with 255's on front and 275's on the rear I find the ride exceptional.
