I'm in the process of sandblasting / painting my air cleaner. Which paint would be a close match of the original factory black? I am looking for something that is available in a spray can. Is there anything special that I should do / prepare after sandblasting? I am planning on using primer as well. Thanks in advance.
I think if you go with a satin finish you should be good. I don't think you want glossy or flat. With the satin, you're in the middle. My two cents. Good luck!
Satin is just a bit dull for the air cleaner. Most all 'accessory' parts under the hood were painted semi-gloss black. Krylon spray cans usually do well. You need to wash and dry the air cleaner housing before you paint. A little wipe of paint thinner or body cleaner before painting would be OK, too.
Buy a can of "Plasti-Kote..... T3 - Hot Rod Black". Its a lacquer / high heat resistant coating. I swear by this stuff, and it pass's NCRS judging as well. Heat the part to remove the moisture held within the metal....either an oven bake or small torch. Apply a light coat or dusting to all the hard to get to area's first. Let it dry, and then come up from there. Two coats should be more than enough.
Stay in tune....

I used semi-gloss black engine enamel. Probably overkill for the temps, but it's what I had. It turned out looking good.
Just remember that whatever you use the wing nut that holds the lid on will scrape a circle in the paint where it rubs against the lid.
Satin is not correct . I see it alot because people are in a hurry or don't know. The fat brake booster is SEMI_GLOSS TOO , but often gets a coat of flat or underhood paint. The air cleaner is a SEMI GLOSS . And if you rub it much it will shine about like gloss.
I bought a NOS aircleaner sealed in the box many, man , many years ago when such things could be found reasonable. . It was very shiney at least semi gloss... and the paint was thick on the lid too.
