I'm new to the C3 world in December. I purchased a 73 Coupe with an L-48 engine, headers, 2-1/2" exhaust with Flowmaster Mufflers. Sounds great!... Fairly loud
On Sunday I spent the morning resetting my timing, mapping the advance curve and seting the "All In" timing at 36*. I just had to take the car out and give the new settings a try.
We had a nice sunny, dry but cold day here on Sunday so I went out for two hour drive. To get to and from my shop, where I keep the car, I have to drive through some narrow Boston city streets before I get into suburbia and some nice roads. I was amazed at how many car alarms I set off as I went down the narrow streets! My wife kept saying; "Are you doing that?" Yes, I am! What a Blast.
Trying to figure out at what speed, gear, or throttle position does the job best. I tend to short shift first gear and pull second.. That does a pretty good job.

Anybody else notice this?
I have done it for years on my Bikes, and now in the Vette. Drive through a parking garage and see what happens! LOL
i would rather hear a car with a nice cam than a loud exhaust...
Oh believe me the cam is on the short list. I'm looking at cams right now. I don't know if I'll do it this winter or wait till next year.
Before I got married, (1971) had a family and started a business. I had a 1963 Chevy Impala SS Convertible, 4 speed, 327, with a 30-30 Duntolf solid lifter cam and 456 Posi rear end. I certainly remember the great cam lope at idle. That cam didn't even come in till over 3,000 rpm. I also remember setting the valve lash all the time... But that was fun! This vette is all about nostalgia for me. Doing the things now I put on hold for 38 years.
I also get a kick when my vette sets off car alarms. Only happens in parking garages though. Completely stock engine with turbo style mufflers. It isn't loud at all, just a nice rumble that is amplified when I'm in a parking garage.
HA - I can relate to this! Car alarms absolutely HATE me when I go by as well...especially since installing the 2.5" Sweet Thunder "SideCannon" Inserts in my pipes!
only brought the bikes out once since November, for a 1 hour ride on each of them January 9th
no snow here in Toronto but more than our share of Arctic cold , night & day.
both bikes are covered & kept spotless & they both fired & ran perfect, just can't push them when the pavement is so cold, but a ride is a ride...
still got yer V2K ?
Yes Pete, I do have it! Its going nowhere. However, it is getting a new Car tire and battery soon for the riding season, she is pushing 60K now!! And runs like a scalded dog! Can't beat em, nothin better!
