Sounds like you know what you want! All C3 coupes had the T-tops, 1968 to 1982. Chrome bumpers were on the rear end of all '68 to '73 models and on the front of all '68 to '72 ones. Broadly speaking, the pre '73 ones are more expensive than the '73 or '74 on cars, and big blocks, manuals and convertibles are all extra again.
Big question is, how are you going to explain the "slush fund" to wifey when you come home in the car? Her next question is likely to be, "What OTHER secrets have you been hiding?" Try talking your way out of that one!
One way you might get out alive is to take her on a week's trip to Paris and, when she asks where the money came from, tell her it was for an occasion like this and, oh, by the way, there is a bit more left in it, can I have a toy pretty please?
Good luck.

Agree with our Fossie's quaffing friend: I'd also suggest Wifey be informed before hand or she'll end up owning it anyway! Besides, if you can get her onboard with the whole Corvette lifestyle thing, you'll be much happier in the long run. I speak from experience. I'm in Seattle and have some knowledge of these cars (have owned 2 bumper cars, one C2) - ping me if you need a second opinion and always open to discuss over a brew (located in W.Seattle)
This post makes me nervous...... If I am 25 with a career, wife, kid, house, and on my second vette, what will I buy when I'm at the mid-life crisis point of my life.
haha...me too my man. Just turned 25, career is going well, wedding this summer, got a dog(st bernard) last year together. Had the vette since I was 18. She got pissed I wanted to buy an Atv last week...which is funny because I just bought "a tv" which she was totally fine with lol.
I had the opposite problem from you Spoonchucker, it was me that wanted the Corvette and my husband who was against the idea. A couple years ago I bought a 280ZX to restore which my husband wanted me to wait on. Then last year I decided I'd really rather have a Corvette than the 280ZX. I told my husband and he was like "NO! you just finished telling me how the 280ZX was your ultimate car, no way are you going to sell it for a loss and buy a Corvette". I kept bringing it up and he'd do a slow burn but over a couple of months of whispering "Corvette!" to him and showing him various ones for sale I wore him down and he got to the point where he was giving me advice on how to look at them and decide which one to buy. I'd say best to be upfront with your wife and if she's hostile to the idea at first keep soft-pedalling the idea to her and you'll probably get her to relent down the road.

Welcome to the Forum!! Just wanted to let you know, Mrs. Spoonchucker was on the Forum a couple of nights ago. She told us she had a slush fund of $25k!

She USED to have a slush fund of $25K. Your car should arrive shortly. Don't worry about the rust on the birdcage, this one has been pretty much repaired with fiberglass, bondo and JB ChemWeld. I hope you have as much fun with this project as I did!!!
Took 30 years to realize my dream as well. Wife knew all along I always wanted a vette from before we were married. I talked about it all the time. 3 1/2 years ago a deal fell in my lap. My ex-brother in law is a mechanic and his boss had the 70 and wanted to sell it. I was shocked that she said to go take a look at it. The rest is history. She gives me flack about it from time to time, but is usually supportive and has gone to some cruises with me. My 16 year old son works on it with me some times and I love the bonding time with him. BTW it's a 4-speed and though my wife hasn't driven it, she prefers manual trannys, so don't shy away from a manual if that is what you really want, and it's also much more fun to drive!
Good luck in your search.
