my 75 corvette is leaking from somewhere but i just cant put my finger on it. after a rainy day i go into my car and i get a puddle of water right under the brake and gas pedals. there is no signs of water running down to the puddle there is just a puddle (same on passenger side). i dont have carpet in the car and i plan on doing so after i fix this leak. Any ideas about where the car is leaking from?
If it's a t-top car, between the t-top "T" piece and the windshield trim, the frame at top of windshield. Remove all pieces and seal that trough (if you don't want to remove, stick point of sealer in gap and pump away!!!). Water will run in and down the pillars to dash and floor, or off the rear view mirror ...............Just one place to look
I have the same leak problem with my Vette. I'll have to check that area as well. I haven't gotten to work on the car since I've been busy with school.
I had the same problem ... but really couldn't find a leak.
I solved the problem by cleaning out the windshield water drainage pathway. I got access by removing the kick panels and the air intake dampers behind those panels, then repeatedly vacuumed and flushed out the drain pathway. If that pathway is plugged with debris, water will overflow through the kick panels.
Well my dads car gets the garage since its a 63 silver blue split window that he rebuilt body off restoration. And yes that kick panel is filled with debris i will check that thanks
I have a book on wind and water leaks in corvettes. It has a rain simulation test that they recommend. The suggest building a simple wooden base,a 1/2 PVC pipe and a shower head. They also use a water pressure gauge to keep pressure at 20-25psi. Basically they have constructed temporary shower put the car under the shower. While in the car wait anywhere from a few seconds to 15 minutes and try to locate the point the water is entering the car. You may have to remove speedo and tach depending on what you can see and where the water is entering the car. The book is called Corvette Water and Wind Noise Solutions it is written by Michael J. Davis. It has several other test that include soap test and pressurization test.
Thanks for everyone's help i will try that tomorrow and report back. its just weird to find a puddle but no water marks that run down to it but that kick panel suggestion makes a lot of sense
I have been down with a flu type thing kicking my *** and didnt go into details when I made my first post on this one,
I was looking at old posts about leaks and I am still amased that so many vette owners are under the mind set that vettes leak so be it live with it....I refuse to live with puddles in my floor.
I agree all the places mentioned can cause a leak, the one I posted is the least popular because there isn't an easy fix...if you go back to my pictures in this thread look at the red dots those are the rivets they work loose and over time sealers get hard and dry, my 2nd 81 had this leak and as I pulled the front clip off I realized just about no amount of goo poured into the cowl would have ever fixed this leak...the Tell-Tale
Of this leak is the water appears to be coming in from just above the kick panel,
Also conditions have to be just right, you can blast the windshield with a hose and nothing...stop and the water is pouring in...or just a light drip from a spray bottle,
well i sprayed water in the wiper valley while i had the door open looking in the car and then within a few seconds water started pouring in. then i sprayed the water very lightly and no leak and it did not leak until the water level got up to that panel that holds the brake pedal. so i put some like black sticky insulator stuff around the plate and that fixed it
