Help identifying under hood electrical part
I found this part lying against the fender under the master cylinder. It appears to have a broken mount and that yellowish wire was most likely white years ago. I haven't found it in the AIM (yet) and looking at a wiring diagram leads me to think it may have something to do with anti theft??
Car is a '77.
I'd like to replace it (not sure what if anything isn't working but it still bugs me)
First shot shows the broken fastener:

Thanks for any leads!

Depends on the year of your car, but if it's a mid '70s and newer that could be the limit switch for the key switch in the driver's side fender. This installs in a way that means that if the housing for the keyswitch is moved (by a thief trying to remove it, for example), that switch completes the circuit to trigger the alarm. Your AIM should give a diagram of where it installs.
Given that it's not installed, I guess your alarm isn't working?

Alarm switch, same switch that mounts at the headlights to show on the console they are up in opened position. The key in the fender has a pawl on it that hits the button on the switch when the alarm is activated, on my 75 it disables the starter. Looks like the threaded stud broke off, this is how it mounts (look at headlamp switch)
Thanks guys - had a feeling it was alarm related. I'll take a closer look this evening.
@ BenUK, I assume it's not working but have yet to try it. Car is a fairly new purchase and we are still discovering.
@ Corvetteload, the button appears to be frozen in the depressed position, correct? Or, does it move in further from that position? I did try to push it in with my finger but felt no give.
