Default Passenger door gap

I'm doing body mounts , along with a few other things. I've always (since I owned the car from 1973) had this gap at the top of the passenger door and no matter how I change (adjust) the shims now, I can't eliminate it. Shim count on the passenger side (rear-front) was 2, 0, 0, 0. Should I just forget it and shim as original? The rear clip is also a bit higher at the top where it meets the door too.

This photo makes the gap going down the door much tighter than it actually is - it's actually the correct gap.

Bottom front corner needs to come up a little. Hinges, not shims. Are the hinge bushings good?

Thanks EM,
I lifted the door and there doesn't seem to be any play.

You should be able to shimm the body to close that gap as it looks like you have a vert. Shimming #4 mount more will close that up.

You need to shim the #4 mounts.

You would think adding more to #4 would raise the rear portion of the clip up and lower the front portion of the rear clip but I went up to 4 shims (2 over what was there) and it did nothing. I've read 5 is maximum but if 4 didn't do anything, I doubt 5 would either.

You've read wrong. You can stick 12 shims in there if needed. The body is extremely flexible. I had to jack the rear of my tub up with a 2X4 and stick way more shims in. Its perfect now.

Have you yet pulled the door panal and loosened the hinge bolts and realigned the door?
