Default Dynamat - Package and Price?

How much Dynamat did you use and which Dynamat package (like 10455 = 9 pcs 18" x 32") did you require to complete your C3? Who did you order from and what was the cost?

Thanks.

I used 2 boxes of the 9 pcs packages to do all my interior including the doors. I got them for about $140 each via amazon.

Gee - a few years ago - I thought it was $400-500 to do Dynamat... I just saw the 9 pc pkg for $128 and free shipping. Dang !

Also - if you take into account the original style firewall insulation ($300) and rear compartment OEM mastic insulation ($100).... The dynamat is a deal.....gotta be wayyyy better insulation anyway than OEM

Plus the OEM firewall insulation did not fit well at all....

When you did your doors, did you completely cover them? or just a middle strip?

I'm not sure what you mean by a middle strip, but I did covered the area which is behind the door panel and I used a sharp knife to cut holes for the fasteners. It made a lot of noise suppression while driving the car.

Hamad... thanks... so- did you put your Dynamat on the inside of the sheet metal of the door - or the inside of the fiberglass? or on the very interior side of the door on the sheet metal?

When I did mine it took a little over 2 of the big boxes and I ordered it from Jegs, who at the time was way cheaper than I could find it anywhere else. I did see in of the Vette magazines a couple of months ago where Dynamat is now offering a die cut kit for C3s, I have no idea what it goes for but the standard sheets are very easy to lay with a roller and a knife for cutting.

I was thinking of putting it inside the door on the fiberglass since I already had the glass out, but then I thought that most of the rattles and noises are coming from whats inside the door (glass, tracks, locking and latching hardware .. etc), so I decided to just put it on the sheet metal cover from the outside, it did make putting the door panel back a bit fiddly, but with a little trimming here and there it went alright, and it did work.

Two of these..

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-DYNAMAT-1045...item2eab933b0b

I did entire cockpit, T-top's, doors, double on the trans tunnel and foot wells, had about 1-2 sq ft left over.

Remember, Dynamat does basically nothing for heat, use cheap Home Depot Reflectix for that where heat is an issue, I did the trans tunnel and foot wells for my sidepipe car... Dynamat first, Reflectix on top of Dynamat with 3M spray adhesive.

All Dynamat does is dampen vibration (sound), the ENTIRE car does not need to be covered in Dynamat. Each vibrating panel needs just enough to dampen the vibration. With the 2 kits, however, you can pretty much do the ENTIRE interior, including the storage/battery wells behind the seats and double up (OVERKILL!) on the trans tunnel and firewall/upper footwells...If you have rear exhaust, it might pay to double up near the rear of the interior...

Rob

What about hushmat http://www.hushmat.com? With the foam it supposedly kills both birds (deadening/heat) with one stone....

Dont forget to get a roller, its really a must. I was cheap and didnt buy a roller and I spent more than double the time needed just to flatten the sheets on the boards!

I read that the Dynamat is good for sound reduce,
What about the heat, I'm going to use ceramic fiber 1/4" under the carpet it's for 1200*c (2200*f)

A 2" roller is very helpful. I used second skin audio's damplifier in my '89 land cruiser. It's similar material but less expensive. Doubled it up in the critical areas. It works great on sound and heat. I've purchased more for my c3. Looking forward to installing it once the car is back from the paint shop.

I used the Dynamat extreme in mine for heat reduction, It works Great. I only did the floor and trans tunnel up to the original fire wall pad when I did a new
carpet install, the car feels so much cooler now, the heat is not a problem at all.

Great product.

Makoshark 72, You have a nice setup there. I love seeing post about that car.

KB,

I used an old roller that I once bought to install screens in a screen door or window frame (its a small roller that is used to push in the rubber cord, that holds the screen material in the frame) Its about about an inch wide, maybe slightly more, came from Ace, probably costs $3??

When I looked at the Dynamat rollers, mine looked amazingly similar (like..exactly!)

I would recommend a narrow roller to get into small spaces. Also with it smaller, you can exert more force to flatten out the mat...
