I suppose you can be aggressive and crack them. Heck, tightening those bolts is a "feel" old school thing. Same with intake manifold bolts at 35.

I went and picked one of these up and ended up hand tightening it. I started at 40 ft/lbs but got nervous it seemed so big of a value. I looked at the gasket details and they said 60 in/lbs. My torque wrench wouldn't go that light so I hand tightened it and made sure to put some Blue locktite on.

Hope it all worksout.

Thx again to all.

Hope you didn't distort anything!

I wish I would have found this thread about 2 hrs ago.

I noticed a small leak at the base of one of my valve covers, so I grabbed the socket and tighten them up. On the second one, SNAP.........off came the head of the bolt.

Wait a pain in the AZZ......

Good luck! I had one of those fancy dress up T bolts snap off while hand tightening it last year in the old motor - It snapped off flush, and I managed to break off the easy out in it as well when my hand slipped. Ended up having to have a stud welded in place. THAT was an infuriating day

The broken bolt came out pretty easy with a bolt extractor bit.

No pain, no gain.....lesson learned.
