Default 82 Horn Button

Heres how it all started..the wife came home with the vette one day and said "hey your horn doesnt work"..and then pulled from her pocket the horn button assembly. So now I need a new buton with the emblem and retainer...all the parts are available from corvette america and also mid america..but im havin a hell of a time finding the PROPER emblem...for some reason everyone is trying to sell a 77 emblem off as an 82...Can anyone out there shed some lite or know where I can find a correct 82 horm button emblem..and why is 82 seem like such a bastard year for some parts?

OK, don't know a whole lot about the horn button and what is or is not proper, but I found this...

I don't understand something. The 1982 horn cap consists of three parts (#9 retainer, #10 emblem, & #11 cap) in the following steering column/steering wheel blowup.

Part #11 (the cap itself) has three posts that are spun over to retain the emblem and the retainer. I agree that I can't seem to find the 1982 emblem. However, if you have the original parts, why can't you just purchase a new cap and use the original emblem and retainer?

Typical horn cap listed for 77-82 (Zip Products shown but other suppliers similar.)

I'm missing something. Wifey had the horn button. Do you need a new button or a replacement horn contact?

Unless the peened over posts (rivets?) that hold it all together have broken, why would you need a new cap, emblem and retainer? If it has broken, you can by the cap for about $25.00, and reuse your retainer and emblem.

All of the 77-82 horn button emblems have been repro-ed, except the 82. If your emblem is cracked or frosted over, I'm pretty sure the 82s are coming, but I don't know how soon.

To answer a few Q's..the retainer is still in the car...the posts did break some time ago..before I had the car and it looks as if the only thing holding it on was a little bit of glue..second..the original emblem is frosted with a couple of deep scratches(worth replacing) It appears that the whole horn system is inop..while im at it ill just through a whole rebuild kit at it....Thanks for all the input..ill keep makin calls maybe one will show up

First problem is wife behind the wheel. Mine would bring the car home with a front wheel in her pocket. My wife isnt allowed to even LOOK at my Corvettes unless I am with her. No kidding.
I have reason why I am this way- when your neighborhood body shop owner calls you by first name, and sends Christmas cards, you have too many fenderbenders (my wife does)...
