The door pulls on my 72 attach with screws, I got that... but the holes in the plastic door pulls are the same diameter as the little metal piece on each end of the pull. So, if I get a screw that the head fits through the plastic hole in the pull, it will go right through the hole in the metal ring that is supposed to hold it to the door...???
I just had one of the doors on the 69 apart- same deal. It had #10 screws in it. I gently opened up the metal ring and slipped a new screw in and let it come back against the rubber pull. Seems to work. Maybe someone knows a better way.
Miget be possible and better to slip a flat washer between the metal ring and the plastic pull then drop the screw in?
The metal piece your are seeing is part of the handgrip and is not what attaches to the screw. The screw attaches to a nut welded inside the [metal] door frame and just pushes through the metal support piece molded into the handle. Just push the metal 'loop' and the plastic ends of that handle into the recessed areas of the interior door panel, then insert the screws and 'fish around' for the threaded hole in those retaining nuts. Then tighten them all the way. If you get the handle lined up correctly, it will pull the ends of the handle completely into the door panel so it looks like it is part of the panel.

I was thinking the washer as well...

I know what the screw attaches to on the metal door frame... its what HOLDS the shoulders of the screw head so the screw head doesnt just go all the way through the plastic handle when you tighten it up...???
I knew this was gonna be hard to explain...TimAT got the jist of it..Something has to "catch" the screw head to allow it to tighten up against the door panel...
Rob - Go buy a set of 67 Door handles and attach the right to the left and visa versa.... You will have the most solid door pull EVER ..... and they look good chromed.

That sounds like a great idea, do I need to modify anything to make them fit right?
The Dynamat in the rear is done USed 6 pieces. Now for the front - but before I do - I need to address kick panel speakers.
Now - I will try to find a pic on the door pulls - you will love the result - trust me.
Rob - hope I am not hijacking - rather helping.... I offered this idea back in 2002 and got no real response. I think its better than sliced bread.... I have not replaced my door pulls since 1978.....solid - very solid door pulls.
