5th digit is an "L" = L-48, base motor. I'm guessing you have a 78 from the "8" in the sixth position.

Yep. Thanks. At least it does have a Comp Cam.

1 Chevrolet Division of General Motors
Z Corvette
87 coupe
L engine code for base L-48 engine
8 year of manufacture 1978
S assmebly plant code for St. Louis, Missouri
436964 consecutive unit number. The 36964th 1978 Corvette assembled. That's late production. I'm guessing June or July, 1978.
The time/build code in the upper right corner of the trim tag will give you the date.

36,848 was the last car built in July. 13rooster's car, 36,964 was actually built the first week of August, 1978.

I said "late". August would be late. My
Black Book doesn't list the ending month VINs. Where'd you get your figure?
P. S. I found the VINs.
