Default 1981 engine color

Tried the search but didn't see what i need to know, when i have the engine torn down in my 81 i want to paint the engine,right now its black?
Was this correct for a 81,I thought it should be blue.

81 engines are painted Chevrolet blue. The intake manifold was painted a dull silver, even though it was aluminum and the valve covers are painted black with the tops of the fins painted gray. Chevrolet switched to black engine paint during 82 production. Black engines started showing up in 82 Corvettes around VIN 21,000.

Someone before me must have had the engine out then,maybe a rebuild because its black,oil pan, block and heads,but the engine numbers match the car.

Could be that. Could be a restamp though I think that's unlikely for an 81. Could also have been painted in place. Look around for signs of overspray.

Yeah, i will take a closer look when i change the heads and cam.
Now i guess i can return the blue can of paint and get black.

it should be blue.
