I've bought 3 or 4 hack saws the last couple years and they have all been junk (all made off shore). The bow is so flimsy that when you do some serious hacking, the bow bends and the blade comes off. Bought one at Lowes that looked like it had a strong back, but it was so heavy and clumsy it was hard to control. Anyone know of a good one?
You are talking to the right guy. I have been selling Lenox tools and saw blades for 25 years. I can fix you up with a great hacksaw and some blades. Are you in a rush, if so Lowes should carry all of our products. We just came out with a new frame that will give you 50,000 psi on the blade. This will give you a very rigid blade and straight cuts. Our old 4012 frame was an industry leader with 40,000 psi and this one is even nicer. Here is the old 4012 frame. http://www.lenoxsaw.com/enUS/Product...AW_FRAMES.html I can get you info on the new frame if you need it
This is an unusual but interesting question. I do some hack saw work (by hand) from time to time and currently available blades just dull out or simply break.
Gordon,
Are your products available in Canada (e.g. Home Depot).
What are the chances that a guy is looking for hacksaw advice and gets in touch with a hacksaw salesman? This forum is amazing anything you need can be found!!
I think Lowes does. The way it is setup if Lowes carries it HD does not and if HD carries it Lowes does not. I can never remember which store has what. One of the big 2 should carry it in USA or Canada. Let me know if you can't find it.

The ones that break are either a cheap carbon blade, and they will dull out very quickly or they are all high speed steel. Most of the good ones are now bimetal. This means the backing steel is made of a spring steel with a high speed steel edge. This makes it somewhat flexible without breaking. The newest version we call a T2 tooth style kicks our old blades butt and that was an excellent blade. I just started using the T2 blades myself and was amazed at the difference. I cut hardened bolts and stainless bolts all the time with them.
Another place to look for Lenox products are your better electrical and plumbing supply houses. We are very big in HVAC, Plumbing and electrical tools. Lenox and Irwin tools are sister companies and we make all their blades and they make a few of the hand tools for us. Either one is an excellent tool.
I purchased one over 20 yrs. ago and have never looked back. I got it when I was working on Thermo King units just out of high school and it solved all my problems with a hack saw coming apart when you get a little aggressive and put the saw in a bind. These things you can treat just about any way you want.
I got mine off of a Snap on truck. I have gotten Lenox blades from Lowes.
No Lowes in our area are they available at Home Depot?
A lot depends on what area of the country you are in. I know in my area Lowes carries the hacksaws but HD does not. Some other areas are just the opposite. HD will carry some Lenox products I just do not know which ones in your area. I wish I could be more help than this but also check the local electrical and plumbing or HVAC supply stores. Do you have a local Grainger or MSC in your area. They are another supplier that carries Lenox products.
Here is a comparison of the 4012 frame to the new HT50 frame. The 4012 frame was a real good frame but we put some nice features on the new one and it has more tension.

I'll have to take a look at the HT50, looks like it is bigger & clunkier than my trusty 4012.
Also it appears to have a bunch of plastic parts on it?
BTW: the LENOX 20352-GOLD razor knife blade is hands down the best blade on the market. There is no competition for this blade!
Sharper to start with and holds it edge longer making it about 3 times as usefull as any other I have ever used.

Nothing wrong with the old 4012 frame. Excellent frame. The new one has no plastic parts on it. It is still made from the same material as the 4012 we just put the "rubber" grips on it and painted it. The weight is within ounces between the two. The tensioning device is in a different location and the beam on top is slightly different for more tension.
The razor blades you are talking about, there is no comparison. We use a bimetal blade just like all of our hand tools and blades. We have a patent on this. The others are just hardened carbon steel and the edge does not hold up and they break very easily. The Gold is a TiN coating that just makes the edge last a little longer. Irwin being our sister company has the Blue Blade. It is our Lenox blade without the coating.
Lenox. Nothing I have bought with the Lenox name on it has let me down. Lenox tools have been the choice of plumbers for years. Walk into any good plumbing supply house and they more than likely have Lenox products on display and in stock. I don't know how much business Lennox gets from Lowes or Home Depot, but Lenox has been used by people that depend on their tools for their livelihood for years.
If you can't find what you want at Lowes or Home Depot, try a plumbing or electrical wholesaler in your area. Most are happy to sell to the public these days.

Lowes and HD do not carry every one of our hand tools from Lenox. There are a select few that they feel are good movers and they stick with it. As a whole considering there are lots of bog box stores they do a big number with us. The electrical and plumbing supply houses have been out bread and butter for many years and will continue to be. They provide excellent service and really know the tools. Can't say the same for the big box stores.
I now have the Lenox saw and blades and it is first class!! Just finished hacking some grade 8 bolts and the blade is still good. The cheaper Home Depot blades would have been done for in the first pass.

I work in commercial HVAC and Lenox tools and blades have never let me down.
Lets put it this way. I made one of my apprentices go back and get the right blades when the toolroom sent him out with some cheap junk.
