Default Which Bolt Holes To Use????

I am going to lift my new crate motor to put it on my engine stand. The motor came with a new Edelbrock intake manifold. Can I use the the 4 blot holes where the carb would bolt on the lift the motor or should I remove 4 of the intake blots and put in longer ones and use them to lift with? I really do not want to remove the new intake manifold itself. Thanks.

Hey Richie,

I would use the accessory holes on the front and back of the heads with a little longer chain if you can. Just make sure you use long enough bolts and put a couple good size washers on them and snug the chain up against the block or close to it.

If you have a carb lifting plate you can use that but I would use that as a last resort because you don't want to pull a stud out or strip a hole on the Edelbrock. But if done right it's not a problem.

If you don't have one and want to borrow an engine hoist and/or leveler let me know.

See you soon,

Joe..

Joe,
Thanks, I did not know there were bolt holes there.
How are you doing? I just got out of the hospital, was in there 4 days with kidney stones. They to operate to get them out. Doing better now. Thanks again. Take care.

Even an aluminum intake will be plenty strong enough to hold the motor weight at the carb mounting bolts. But you DO need a carb plate and all four Grade 5 bolts that don't bottom out and are torqued to spec for the intake you have. At 10 ft-lbs, four 5/16" bolts have about 8000 lbs of holding power.

Sorry to hear about the Stones Richie. That sucks.

I'm doing good. Things are under control.
