Default Trying to verify

1980 Corvette with L48 engine, did they come with blue valve covers, looking at buying this vette , just want to be sure it is a vette motor.

Cross check the VIN number to the motor...

Yes. But so did the Corvette 305s and pretty much every other smallblock made that year. Color is not a reliable clue.

There will be two numbers stamped on the pad on the block at the front of the right head. Jot down both numbers. One will identify the specific engine and the second will be the VIN derivitive of the car the engine was originally installed in.

The 80 L-48s are coded ZAK for cars with AT; ZAM for 4 speed cars. Look for a stamp of VxxxxZAK or VxxxxZAM. xxxx will be the characters of the engine assembly date. V is the plant code for the Flint, Michigan engine assembly plant. All Corvette smallblocks were assembled at Flint.
