Default Engine Clean-up

I have the accessories (PS Pump and Alternator) and associated brackets off the front of my engine (water pump still on). Before re-assembling I thought I might clean up the front of the engine and frame cross member with some degreaser. Any problem with hosing off the degreaser if I am careful to keep the water away electrical components?

I would degrease the whole thing! I have never really had any problems doing it that way.

I pressure wash my engine regularly, I just be careful not to shoot the water stream on to the carb and any ignition component, also I never pressure wash the engine when its hot and I never start it up unless its completely dry and I use a hand blower to blow off the water right after I'm done with the wash.

I put plastic bags over the carb , distributor , coil and alt, then wash the whole thing, no problems.

I see at least hydroboost, distributor cover, and afterrmarket AC added. Sure there's more I'm missing.

This is a little more relevant. A little degreaser and paint in addition to pressure washing works wonders:

Man, you guys need to clue me in on this! Where can I find the degreaser that not only cleans but fuel injects and supercharges as well?

Back to the thread....

No problem using the degreaser. I don't think it will even do any harm to the wiring....except maybe get the grease off of them too. Remove the air cleaner and cap-off the top of the carb (make a plastic or wood cover that will seal it from cleaning work). That way, the carb gets cleaned, too.

ok .. ok .. you're right! .. but I dont have any "before" image other than that, but when ever my engine bay will be full of dust (this is my daily driver and I live in a desert) I just pressure wash it and it becomes like that, I dont use any kind of soap or degreaser ... etc, just plain pressurized water.

Thanks guys for the advice. more questions sure to come. i'm in the middle of a front suspension rebuild. Hope to have everything back together and clean and shiny by the end of June...that is if I don't diverge to much from my intended task.
