Default What do you think?

Hi all,

I'm new here as you can see....
My brother and have always dreamed of doing what guys want, that's buy a vette and fix're up.....

Well, we found one and it will need loads of time and even more money.
We're not scared of this at all, not in a hurry.

What we have is, 79' matching numbers, L-48, dark green exterior and interior, 4 speed, and with manual window's. I've looked up the production numbers and it's an odd ball for sure.
This a car I'm not going to flip, rather give someone 20 G's and move on. We, like you love vette's and love the 79 look. This is all about love not money (looks like we have no brain's either)

First Question,
I just posted looking for help on locating birdcage parts.....
I know there is more to know and see, ( frame is good ) but how far
would you go save the birdcage and keep it original.

Could find another body with a good birdcage(good luck!) or fix the one we have?

Second Question,
Where can you find reference material on taking the fiber glass off the birdcage?

Thanks John

John,
When you say birdcage rust, most guys here go and then go

It is quite a project to repair. It is far beyond my skill level.
Anyway, I would start by doing a search here on birdcage. There are forum members that have done some amazing work on them and posted their progress here.

Next, take some detailed pictures of the bad areas. That will give us an idea of what you are dealing with. We will be able to give you better tips if we know what part of the cage you are working on.

Good Luck

These guys were displaying their parts at 2009 Carlisle. They had every part necessary to rebuild a full birdcage and it looked beautiful. It was Caledonia Corvettes or Coffman, I can' t remember, sorry. (I'll see if I can find out.) If someone remembers, please chime in.

Incidentally, I've purchased some windshield frame pieces from vendors (some on this Forum, who will go nameless) that are very poorly made and are unacceptable. Be careful of some of the repro stuff out there.

I was interested in this as well...

PS, I was informed the pics I had were in fact from Caledonia; however, I understand they do not have a full selection of C3 parts. You might call anyway, though.
